Keeping my head to the ground and trying something out this season -- gonna only make plays with no money backing them in a test to see how I can do if I do this seriously for an entire year. Lines will all be based on bookmaker available lines at the time of my post.
Here's for Thursday:
1. UNLV +36 (-110), 1.1 to win 1 -- UNLV scores one TD and then Wisconsin has to hand 44 points on UNLV... seems to me like far too many people are jumping all over Wisconsin here in this spot. I mean, doesn't this seem like a position where it is far too easy to just think Wisconsin will roll over UNLV? I think Wisconsin eats clock and just keeps the ball on the ground, they don't want to do anything crazy this game, just get their win even if it is only by 24 points and move on to Oregon State next week which will be a much tougher game.
Good luck everyone

On UNLV for basically all the same reasons you laid out. GL this year Kap. Wish you the best in your plan to sit out 365 days. Have you been tempted yet? How's it going so far?

Indeed, and if I remember correctly, Wisconsin starts with 5 straight home games? They'll want to slowly get Russell immersed and I doubt they try to do anything too crazy with him in terms of putting his foot on the gas right off the bat. Wouldn't be shocked to see the subs and backups get some serious run in the 4th quarter here for WISKY

Good Luck. To many people are remembering Wisky dropping 83 on Indiana last year. UNLV always seems to find a way to cover.
LY it was a 3 point game at the half, in '07 UNLV was winning by 1 until the last 2 minute drive. And we all remember the game when the lights went out.
Because of the history in this matchup it is a no play for me.

Good to hear from you david
Been tempted? Absolutely. I was tempted to re-load up my online account with bookmaker and bet some futures bets, I even went so far as to justify in my mind why that is not really "gambling" but I realized I was lying to myself. Never made the deposit and gonna just take it on a day by day basis. I think making plays without money behind them will actually make it easier for me to stay away, strange as that sounds.

kaponofor3 Good Luck brother. The last time I did something similar to what you are doing I crushed em it ruined my resolve, so I funded an account with a dime and lost it in 2 days, Nothing is more painful than making unfunded plays and watching them hit then as soon as you plunk some cash down.......El Stinko comes to town and sucks up your green.

...im leaning wisky right now, but they also have russell wilson, i think every1 who thinks of wiksy is thinking of them scoring 70+ on 2 D1 teams last year with a diff qb....
Wilson is def an upgrade(in my book atleast), but maybe he needs to adjust?
...who knows how much UNLV can actually score here tho..

Glad to hear you were able to resist. I agree with you making plays without real money could help. Only thing that make complicate the issue there is if you start the season, lets say 21-9 or something. At that point i've gotta imagine it will only get harder to remain on the sidelines. From the sound of it though, you seem pretty determined to see this thing through.

GL this season Kap...I like Wisky but couldn't bring myself to lay that many points, however I did take them for the 1H. Thinking they jump out to the big lead and let the foot off the gas late 3rd and 4th quarters.

2. Akron Zips +33.5 (-110), 1.1 to win 1 -- Ohio State is a freaking mess, huge transition year for them, and I'm supposed to believe that will all of this drama going on around their program they are going to come out and win their opening game by four touchdowns and two field goals? This game will mean light years more for Akron than it will for Ohio State. By my count, nearly half of Akron's roster is from Ohio (43 players I believe). Think those guys won't be motivated to open the season against the big dog in the backyard that didn't think the Akron players were good enough to go there? Late suspensions and all of that makes me wonder exactly how focused this OSU squad is.
Do you know how bad Akron was last year? I bet you do -- they lost 11 games by an average of 22 points. Nowhere to go but up after that type of season, especially when you open the season against the backyard bully.
Even Ohio State fans don't seem to be too high on their boys after all the drama of the off-season. From SBN's Ohio State blog, here are the predicted scores by the OSU experts:
Ben: Ohio State 41 - Akron 10
Tyler: Ohio State 38 - Akron 3
Chip: Ohio State 35 - Akron 7
Kyle: Ohio State 31 - Akron 10
Not that it really means anything, but it is nice to get insight from guys who really have their pulse on a specific program. In the above predictions, Akron covers 3 out of 4 times and the only one they don't results in an ATS loss by 1.5 points.
Akron for me

More like lucky call depb given how the game ended, but I'll take it
Kap, I know you saw the way UNLV came back for the cover and thought to yourself... "if I had real money on this game, there's no way they would have comeback"
Am I right?

Yes caca, bets with no money behind them. The whole reason I have got too deep in the past was because of what ills every gambler at one time or another -- chasing losses. If I am not wagering actually money, then I will have no motivation to chase. I want to see what happens if I go week by week on the season without chasing... if I am disciplined, can I make money doing this for college football? I already did something similar in basketball (i.e. really taking it seriously and going day-by-day) and I finished the season up over 115 units (playoffs were very very good to me including series wagers) with a total record of 226-195-5 (53.6%) -- and I was specifically trying not to chase that year (and I didn't).
So why not see if I can do it in NCAAF or NFL as well? If I'm wrong, no money out of my pocket. If I'm right, then, well, at least I'll know what I need to avoid in the future so I don't find myself in the position I am in now.
