Time for NCAA football. Last year was a good one. Too bad that doesnt count for anything now. DOCUMENTED 0-0 as we type this. Let's get to work.

Louisiana Tech +7.5

LT has the continuity advantage at QB and are coming off a very successful season. This game clearly means more to LT (knock off a big name school) as opposed to T AM who has bigger fish to fry including Florida next week. Sure AM wants to win - no shit - but you cant be 100% jacked for every game. Can they just roll their helmets on the field and win by essentially double digits? Dont know. Maybe. LT has an experience offense, great special teams, a possible home field adv, and have a new JUCO NT that should help plug the middle. AM will score and should get better as the season goes on. Just not sure about week one.

Ok - here is a list of teams that they covered against in the last 3 years that you could argue had "better athletes".

Boise (twice)

LSU

S Miss (twice)

Miss St

Ole Miss

Houston

Ironically - they have been destroyed by Navy twice and that would be a team in theory whose "athletes" would be worse.

So yes - AM may cover. They may win by 20+. The reality is that when handicapping any game - "athletes matter" - but you always have to consider the PRICE (pointspread). We have the fair line at 4. If it was a pick em - sure - we would grab AM and the better "athletes" all things being equal. But this is football - not a friggin decathalon.

A wise man once said, betting at MAC game is like playing russian roulette with every chamber full. Actually, maybe we made that up. Whatever. E Michigan has a decent shot of pulling this one off straight up - but we will take the 3.5 pts in a game we thought would be a pick em.

QB A Gillett brings a nice run/pass threat at QB and the offensive line is jumbo and experienced and paved the way for 218/game last yr. They gave up 24.3/game last yr while Ball gave up 34.7 and over 226 yds on the ground. Both teams should score - E Michigan has been steadily improving the last 3 yrs and yr 4 should get them to a bowl game. Ball St may be just a bit behind in terms of playing their best. Ball St 4-13L17 at home. Last 3 games between these two have been decided by 2,3,2 pts.

skipster-  good catch - i have the fair line for Az at 24 19+5 for HF. Usually when my wk 1 lines are way off like that i have missed something big so dont jump on it right away. Still on my short list tho as Toledo has only 8 RS and gave up over 30 pts/game - MAC vs P12 ? What do you think?

Those teams have been playing close low scoring games lately so laying 7 on the road scares me a bit- not gonna play that game and think SC will be up 4-10 heading into the 3rd so really a coin flip IMO GL:buddy
