Army/CMU
Rumor has it Dunn will be starting for Army, which if you saw against Tulane last week, he came into the game and they were actually able to put forth some drives. If that’s the case, Army will be able to put up some points on this piss-poor CMU defense, and I’d be eager to see a total here. Looks as if CMU has turned the corner, but possibly turning the corner at the wrong time w/ a sandwich game here before going to Clemson next week.
Washington State/Oregon
Probably a little value on Oregon here, even with a –18 spread. Oregon’s had a few weeks to prepare following the Cal loss, and while WSU hung with ASU last week, don’t let that fool you. The difference between ASU and Oregon is simple. Pocket passer vs. scrambling quarterback. Washington State was able to blitz quite a bit in that ASU game, which rarely turned any yardage for ASU, but if that’s done this week, Oregon has the team speed to throw some screens, flats, or quick slants that turns into a big play at any point. WSU QB (Brink) returns to Oregon where he played high school football and won a state championship and he’s talked about “revenge” b/c Oregon didn’t even recruit him out of high school. He had those same thoughts last year in a 34-21 upset win that saw them hold a lead of 27-3 at one point. He also completed 20-23 passes that game.
TCU/Stanford
Initial thought was this is a big letdown spot for Stanford. Beating the #1 team on the road, and probably have done quite a bit of praising and high-fiving this week around campus. They’re a pretty banged up squad from what I can tell on the injury report. As for TCU, how do they prepare here? One would think their season is done, after having high hopes coming into it. They haven’t won a road game all year, and I’d think that the place would be buzzing with excitement on Saturday w/ the team returning home after quite possibly the biggest upset in all of college football.

Wisky at Penn State
Selection: Wisconsin +6.5
Two teams that Illinois has beaten. When was the last time I said that in the same year? Anyways, the difference in my opinion between the win over Penn State and the win over Wisconsin, is the fact that Penn State just isn’t good. Wisconsin’s a little banged up, but the reason they lost to Illinois is simple, team speed. They did not play well at all at Illinois, and still were able to keep it close, and the reason is that they rely on PJ Hill to do so. Penn State hasn’t beaten a legitimate team this year yet. Yes, they beat Iowa, but Iowa has zero offense. Michigan pounded the running game 3 weeks ago, Illinois pounded the running game 2 weeks ago, they faced a complacent offense last week, and now they get Wisconsin who will pound the running game this week. My #2 catching 6+ on the road at my #3 who I’ve seen play and just wasn’t impressed at all is something I will take a chance with here…

nropp, I am sure you are not a teaser player (at least I don't think you are) but I put one together for this Wed Thurs Fri. Love the write up on the Hawaii/San Jose St game. Here is what I got... Navy + 14.5 Wake +16 and San Jose St +28.5 any input or thoughts would be appreciated!

Only thing w/ Navy is if they get behind early, their passing game is basically non-existant.

Nropp,
nebraska giving 4 to oklahoma state. i followed u last week taking okst. im putting nebraska out there as my play of the week. okst has been playing teams very tough on some solid football. they also should be pretty pissed off bout losing the game last week especially after leading the game 17- 0 at the half. on the other side of the ball Nebraska just took a shot back into reality after getting demolished by mizz and coming home with their tail between their legs. ||an_beatup.gif' border=0> im still leaving out the fact that they got beat by okst last year i believe it was 41- 29. i love taking a team that hasn't covered in a while and giving points at home. Last time nebraska covered a game was on september first when they routed Nevada. i believe there due for a cover. i have very strong lean on nebraska here and am thiking bout laying the wood here What u think? Nice play with sjst on friday.

Virginia Tech @ Duke,
i never bet agaist a home dog but think i mite have to hear. duke won a game this year ad has covered every gme except for the whooping they took from connecticut earlier on in the year. virgini tech is a great road team and seems to have there number every year by putting a beating on them. but with no offense on virginia tech its tough to lay 13.5 on the road even if it is duke. any thought?

Paler,
Just can't find myself to play someone b/c they are due. I agree though, NEB is a better team, just have to bounce back strong here.
As for VTECH/Duke, it's a sandwich game for Vtech here. Big win over Clemson then have BC coming to town next week. That, and nto sure if it was last week or this week, I hinted that laying road chalk in the ACC doesn't always turn out that well.

Wannstedt challenges frosh QB to produce 4 TDs vs. Navy
ALAN ROBINSON, Oct 9, 2007
Twenty-eight points. That's the target number Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt is giving freshman quarterback Pat Bostick for Wednesday night's game against Navy. To Wannstedt, anything short of 28 points probably won't be enough to outscore Navy's productive triple-option offense that loves to control the ball and frustrate opponents. ...More

Nropp, I know you're getting bombarded with "what do you think about this game" questions... but I was hoping you could shed some light on one particular interesting game..
Texas A&M @ Texas Tech with TTU -9.5 (was -8.5).

do you think that san jose st game warrants another 1* at +19 now with my book?
Difference between 17.5 and 19 is essentially nothing. Now, if it hits 20, i'll reconsider.

Chosen,
I don't want any part of this game. Tech has won the last two meetings at home I do believe by a combined 65+ points. Also, A&M's Lane guaranteed a victory. If I had to choose a side, it'd be tough to pass up the + points w/ A&M in a rivalry game, but gonna pass on this one. Have a few buddies who bet A&M though, and it seems as if everyone all over loves Tech in this one. No play for me.

Big news developing across the internet today over Penn State head coach Joe Paterno's road rage incident. Evidently, Paterno cut off a couple, began screaming obscenities, flipping the couple off and yelling "Do you know who I am?"
||an_roll_laugh.gif' border=0>
Less than a week after running back Austin Scott was suspended for violating a team rule, coach Joe Paterno said Tuesday that he was looking into the possibility that some Nittany Lions may have been involved in a fight. A university police log shows the agency is investigating a call early Sunday from the student union that concerned an alleged assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. The call came in at 1:45 a.m. -- nearly seven hours after Penn State (4-2, 1-2 Big Ten) defeated Iowa. Between five and 10 people may have been involved in an altercation at a party sponsored by a student organization and attended by several hundred people, Parham said.

Rutgers/Syracuse
Ray Rice actually committed to the Orange, but withdrew after a coaching change. Teel has been held out of practice this week due to an injured hand, but expects to play come Saturday. How does this Rutgers team bounce back on the road in the Carrier dome after having only 2 losses last season?

Minnesota at Northwestern
Selection: Minnesota +7
Northwestern in sort of a letdown spot here after actually winning a Big 10 game on the road in overtime last week at MSU. Minnesota comes in on a 4 game losing streak, which doesn’t look all that healthy, but the offensive coordinator (Dunbar) was the OC at Northwestern for a few years, before coming to Minnesota, so he’ll lend a hand to the defense that should make a play or two to possibly steal an outright win here. Northwestern Pass defense has to be at the bottom of the big 10, and I’ll play the points here in a high scoring affair, before Minnesota heads home and loses to North Dakota State next week, LOL. A top 40 offense vs. a bad defense, and I’ll take the touchdown here…

Georgia Tech at Miami FL
Selection: Miami FL –2.5
I’m actually glad that Miami did not come back and win last week. There’s some definitely value in this line here. Miami has been great at home this year, and this is really their last test at home in the Orange Bowl (VA, and NCST). They come home after losing to North Carolina 33-27, where they found themselves down 27-0 at halftime. Georgia Tech is all but dead.
In order for Georgia Tech to have any shot at an ACC title, they will have to:
Win their final four games
Have Virginia lose at least three of it’s final five games
Have Virginia Tech lose to at least two ACC opponents other than Georgia Tech
Have Miami lose to at least one ACC opponent other than Virginia Tech
After losing at Maryland last week, and basically throwing your ACC chances down the drain, how do you bounce back now? How do you go on the road and compete? They’ve lost both of their ACC games on the road this year, Virginia and Maryland. Yah, they beat Notre Dame on the road, not a big accomplishment in my opinion. This is a Tech defense that was supposed to be one of the best in the conference, but they have been giving up big plays left and right. Maryland completed passes of 70+, 47 and 44 yards. Virginia did the same, completing passes of 45 and 31 yards. Boston College did the same, as it completed passes of 46, 40, and 39.
I’d have to favor the Miami offense here with those statistics. As for the Yellow Jackets, Taylor Bennett had gotten off to a slow start after bouncing back last week. The kid is going to be good eventually, but I can’t see it happening against this Miami defensive line that is one of the best in the conference. Nix, the offensive coordinator for the Hurricanes, came over from Georgia Tech where he had been the last three years, which gives this Miami defense even more of an advantage in this ballgame.
I have to take the home team here laying the points, to what one would think would be a deflated Tech team. Miami hasn’t allowed a first-half point all year, and behind the home crowd in the last year at the Orange Bowl, and what I feel has the better advantage on defense, and the ability to make the big play…

nropp,
I think your a great capper and have been following some of your threads, but I'm not too sure about this game yet. I know it's early but 60% of public money on miami and line going in their favor? sounds too good. I initially agree with everything you said but looks way too easy. sounds like a trap bet to me... who know though I'll wait to see how the line moves throughout the week. GL, keep up the good write-ups.
