after watching the championship game last year you have to wonder if the Ducks can hang on the line of scrimmage, that D-line of Auburn was too much for the Ducks and even though Oregon could have easily won the game, it was clear to me that they weren't physical enough for a big SEC team, Oregon had a very experienced o-line in that game and still couldn't keep AU out of the backfield, I think Auburn rattled Thomas, if Thomas would have made a few more throws then I think Oregon wins, the Ducks defense did their part to contain Newton
I can't stand Miles and will hope Oregon can win, but a line of scrimmage issue for the Ducks wouldn't surprise me here, the SEC just has superior defensive lines than most of the other conferences

Oregon lost (in my book) because they couldn't run, not because they couldn't pass. Asking for a bunch more out of Thomas probably wasn't realistic. 68%, 350+ yards, 2:2 ratio, picks were one bad throw and one nice defensive play.
Oregon had 1st and goal from the 3 and couldn't punch it in, and the other time they were inside the 5 and settled for a FG. Disastrous.
GL this year.

Oh, I completely agree which is why I was making the point that Auburn controlled the LOS, I just pointed out that I didn't feel Thomas played very well, the Ducks not being able to establish a run game is certainly the reason for the loss, I thought the Duck defense did a nice job containing Newton
nice to chat Gar

Think LSU will be too physical for Oregon up front on both sides of the ball... much like Auburn was last year
I agree. And as I have posted many times in past bowl seasons, when a good defensive team has a lot of time to prepare for a gimmic offense, the pendulum invariably swings in favor of the defense. That being said, I was very impressed with Oregon's defense in the championship game as well. If they can muster a similar effort against LSU (which I think they can), they will certainly have a shot.
Defenses are usually a little ahead of offenses early in the season so I think LSU probably sqeezes out a narrow victory in a relatively low scoring game (very much like the national championship game). If I were betting the game, I would lean towards which ever team is getting the points. (most likely Oregon)..

Oregon is too fast for LSU, Not too physical, LSU is the physical team here but Oregons spped is the real deal. My only concern for Oregon is they lost 3 starters on the Offensive line.
Watching the spring game I dont see them going for 2 pointers after a score I also do not see them getting first downs if they are in 4th and short situations.
LSU has the same exact problem as last season, NO FUCKING QUARTERBACK.
Nothing hurts me more as a handicapper to see a team with great talent all around.
O-line great
W-recievers very good
Running backs very good
D-line stacked
Linebackers awesome
D-Bs top of the line and then you have a crap at QB.
This was a national championship team last season had they had a decent signal caller, and they are stuck with the same garbage again.
What a fucking pitty
Well we'll have to wait and see who is under center for LSU. LSU pulled highly touted JUCO QB Zach Mettenberger in this year's recruiting class. I doubt he'll get the nod over senior QB Jordan Jefferson, but it's a situation that bears watching.
Having said that, I don't hink Jefferson is as helpless as you make him out to be. Jefferson is a great athlete who has been steadily improving as he gains experience. I expect him to improve even more with the benefit of another off-season, and i look for him to have a very productive senior season. Sure he'll never have the stats Darron Thomas will have, but he's running a pro-style offense against far superior defenses. I would give Oregon a slight advantage at QB, but not a big one.
LSU's defensive is a better defense than the one Oregon faced against Auburn in the national championship game, and ultimately I think LSU's defense will probably sqeek out a win for the Tigers.

no need to check. all the credit goes to the USC Trojans.
I don't doubt that at all, but I know Cal & Oregon have recent wins over the Vols. Those two losses are offset somewhat by LSU's win over WSU and Georgia's win over Arizona. Other than the national championship game, those are the only SEC vs. PAC 10 matchups I can conjure up off the top of my head at the moment.

* that doubleup hates the HAT.....fade in EVERY spot?
ARE YOU SURE?....most of you boys are speaking of the Ducks .....as if same team that played in BCS title game.....will show up at JERRYWORLD....
as mentioned.....Ducks run game was totally shut down by Auburn.....Duck D did nice job ....but still gave up 519 yds (254 rushing...5.1/rush)....those guys....that got their ass whipped at LOS (line of scrimmage)....are mostly gone.... *including 5 of defensive front 7....where the 2 that do return were the #13 and 14th leading tacklers....losses include 3 all-conf players.....DE....DT....MLB * remember also for this game....their now best defensive player and nation's best punt returner ?.....Cliff Harris...is out * OL returns only 2/5....only 56 career starts.....remember BUILT for PAC 10 play.....> SPEED ....in fact last year the top bench among Duck OL was 375 lbs....great for Covers but weak for CFB.. by far their leading receiver /go to guy....Jeff Maehl also gone
throw in big crowd edge.....and all the other crap....(Kelly most likely WON'T lose his job).....HOWEVER....if evidence reveals he knowingly covered up violations....he will probably be sacrificed (just cause)......to save/reduce possible NCAA punishment......and save 20.5 million......
it's the HAT or nothing here....tho laying 3'... wouldn't excite me too much personally ....

I will be absolutely shocked if the Tigers find a way to get 37 on the board. They did that twice last year, once vs. ULM and the other vs. Ole Miss. Now you are asking a standard fare QB in the first game of the year to light it up after losing his "top" WR (who only had 41 catches showing how pathetic their passing game was.)
Pac 10 is 13-8 ATS vs the SEC.
Pac 10 is 11-10 SU vs the SEC.
Those stats are both from the last ten years. Either bet type would have proved tremendously profitable for Pac 10 backers, as a few of the SU results were outright upsets. SEC was often a double digit favorite. A rather even distribution of quality throughout. SEC backers would have you believe that the Pac 10's wins were all USC beating Vanderbilt, but nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, it was generally average or below Pac 10 sides who seemed to be taking on above average SEC squads which is supported by the size of the spreads, but that is splitting hairs, the number can stand on their own.
I don't think this supports the idea that the Pac 10 is a better conference (which I do not believe), but I think it supports (what I have long believed) which is that the Pac 10 is under-rated while the SEC is over-rated.
LSU is the one team who seems to play the Pac 10 with consistency, which makes their performances particularly noteworthy.
I am so ready for the season to get here!!!

I stand corrected on one point, the Bayou Bengals got over 37 in their bowl as well. That was one of their better performances of the season, we'll see if it carries over to this year.

Yeah BA Barakas, I listened to Sheridan on the Slimebaum show. I'm not a hater of any school, but I do hate all the scandal that has infested the greatest game on earth.
I have avoided discussing this on Covers because it upsets a lot of posters (Auburn posters), some of whom I respect. That being said, I will stick with the prediction I made last Novemebr which is that when it's all said and done, it'll be the largest cheating scandall in NCAA history. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

that was a fantastic job BTW....on all levels those Auburn homers that tried to go toe to toe with you got beaten senseless....
It is better to be feared - than to be loved.

I still have a tough time judging Oregon's offense (or Auburn's for that matter) on that National Title game because the field was an over-watered slick track... didn't an offensive player fall down on just about every play? Yes I was on the over. Yes, still pissed.
LSU 34 Oregon 31
Wish this game was tomorrow!
