danstyk, I wasn't the one who brought up Penn State as scoring 10, you were.  And then you also made the comment on SC scoring 6 which I wanted to rebuttal. 
 
And I hope you can realize that I wasn't knocking Penn State.  I said that I still think they are a great team and I would think it would be a good game (USC vs. PSU).  But after watching what USC has done to the Big-10 over the past six years, I just can't excited for another game between USC and the top Big-10 team. 
 
It sucks that people are talking shit on PSU but the same people are talking shit on USC this year because they've lumped them in with their conference and each has a loss to an inferior team. 

You guys killed Oregon State...I get it!  But I think that's a really silly thing to continue to come back to.  They stubbed their toe just like Penn State did against Iowa. 
 
But historically speaking, USC has dominated the best the Big-10 has to offer over the past six years and I guess I'm resorting back to past Rose Bowls that I've witnessed.

Me too, just to be able to bump this thread.  Penn State isnt Ohio State, or any other Big 10 team.  They lost a nailbiter to Iowa, USC  lost to Ore St, and Fla lost to one of the Mississippis, cant remember which.  My point is they all had 1 bad game, and based on the level of competition in the PAC 10,  you really arent making a very solid argument for USC to be so dominant against PSU.

The Pac 10 does suck (and I am a PAC 10 guy). A loss to Oregon State for USC is unacceptable.....BUT, look at the record the past 3 or 4 years on those damn Thursday ninght ESPN games. Home dogs cover or win at a very high percentage. It's not an excuse (and I hate USC) but it is the toughest thing to do in college football is travel to a school and play as a favorite on Thiursday nights.

In my opinion Mike Riley is a very underrated (college) coach though.

I agree that USC's loss to Oregon State was unacceptable but they are 8-3 this season and haven't lost a game since that USC victory.  You can say the same about Florida and their loss to Ole Miss.  Or Penn State's loss to Iowa.  Things like this happen every year and because of this and no playoff, finding the best team in the nation isn't an exact science.  It's unfortunate but teams slip up every year and have to deal with the repercussions.

USC's scenario is playing out perfectly once again, as if we should have ever doubted that.  They lose to Oregon St. who at the time we all thought would be a six or seven win team, but they string together a run and haven't loss since, thus making USC's loss to them look a little better.  All that said if they lose this coming week they would still be viewed as a pretty decent team, much better than a Stanford team that beat the Trojans a year ago.  If they did lose USC could possibly squeeze into a National Championship game if they could get a little help from Mizzou.  Fuckin trojans ya gotta hate em

But SC needs a little more help then just from Mizzou. 
 
Oklahoma needs to lose to Oklahoma State & Mizzou would have to beat Texas in the Big 12 championship.  Both of those are two major IFs.  If Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State, there is no way USC gets to the championship game even if Mizzou win the Big-12 Championship.  (Oklahoma or Texas would still be ranked above em)
 
I would love to see Alabama play USC in the Sugar Bowl and finally put to rest the "USC is overrated" talk because if they do beat Bama, you got to give them respect.  But if Bama loses, I'll have to admit that USC was overrated.  Either way, USC would be put in it's rightful place.

Probably the dumbest comment I have seen in awhile. I don't care how high powered an offense is, nobody would blowout USC. Someone tell me the last time USC was blown out, it has been awhile. I have said this before, for some reason USC seems to lose to mediocre teams like UCLA and Oregon State two years ago, which cost them a chance to play in the National Championship game. Last year, they had an embarrassing loss to Stanford. And this year they lost to Oregon State again. By the way, Oregon State is pretty good. The common occurrence here is that these were all conference games. USC may sneak into the BCS championship game, but it would take some help from other teams. I know I am a fan, but I would feel comfortable with USC against any team in the country. Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, and Alabama would all be great games. I just do not want to play Penn State or Ohio State again. Nothing against Penn State, they are a great team, but I want to play an SEC team or a Big 12 team just to see a great game. Anyway, I am looking forward to this weekend a lot of great games on tap

USC is NOT a National Championship team this year.  Any implication otherwise is beyond retarded.

I want the beavers to lose because i dont want to see them over here in the rose bowl but i would love to see usc get a rematch with texas if they do win

new to this site. vowed to keep my mouth shut , but after reading some of the comments, i feel compelled to add my two cents worth. i live in oklahoma and i am a retired football coach who greatly admires ou, the big 12 and sec.i have coached in four states--oklahoma, texas, colorado, and california. i believe you can throw a blanket over several teams-- florida, ou, texas, alabama, and usc, draw out two names and have a national champion capable of beating any and all of the challengers! several more teams are very close behind.i do take exception to all who downplay usc as i think they are the best big game team in the country on any given year and they are the team i would fear the most should they be the team i had to beat to win a national championship. sure they lose a game to a lesser opponent almost yearly, buy seldom do they ever lose a big game. just myopinion,but facts are facts.

But knocking Penn St just cuz they play in the Big Ten, do so at your own betting peril.  They have won their last three bowl games -- if not for them you would be hearing a lot more about the abysmal B10 bowl history of late.

Yes I do.  I would expect it all game long, but they could definitely drive on them, and on anyone.

I have great respect for USC and coach Carroll.  But clearly there is a lot of disrespect for Penn State, and that's all I'm saying.  We won't know for another week if these two teams will meet, but I sure hope they do. 

One more thing -- this matchup would absolutely have great national interest.  Possibly more than matching USC with a Big 12 or SEC team.

Coach, I agree that USC gets dogged..They simply play down to their competition too much but they are a great big game team that looks forward to challenges.  I always look forward to taking USC and will this year, too. The only team I would that would make me think twice would be Florida but I would still take USC.

Oregon State is my POY this week boys.  They're hungry coming off a BIG win on the road and return home where they've been machines and can clinch their ticket to the Rose Bowl. The Dam will be rockin and these Beavers are for real.

You're right, it's been awhile since USC has been blown out. Maybe the reason is because they don't fucking play anyone. If you're going to lose to teams like oregon state and stanford, just think what's going to happen if they play a team that's just as fast and plays smash mouth like Florida.

I'm sorry, I live in so cal, and I friggin think this is the most overhyped team. Honestly, what have they really done. With all that talent in these last 8 years or so, they muster 1 championship in 2 tries? C'mon guy.

Toughest game all season, agains Ohio state? what a joke. Play a regular season game against a SEC team other than Arkansas, then let's talk.

PeterGrifin1Fan - I have no beef with you.  I don't think we're far apart in assessing this.  I did not bring up the 10 point thing, eyedog did.  I just reacted to that, and my comment about USC scoring 6 was just saracsm.  I can't make you get excited about a big ten team, and I can understand why after Ohio St the last two years.  But each year is different, and we'll see what this one will bring.

Lineguesser -- I don't know who godfather16 is, but I'll take the hint that it's not a good thing. 

I find it hard to believe people are talking shit about USC.  They won't be after Jan 1.  Their schedule may not be tough but that will just motivate them more to prove themselves.  Any team with a defense like that is capable of beating anyone.

As a Penn State fan, the last thing we want is to play Oregon St again because we have little to win and something to lose.  We already beat them up once, so we do it again and people say "Wow, you beat Oregon State again -- whooppee."  And that does nothing to change the impression of the big ten.  If we win a close game or even lose outright (doubtful but possible) then it exacerbates the problem.  I'm sure the Beavers have gotten better since week 2.

So we're hoping big time for USC.  You always want to play the best.  And USC should be favored, but it is far from a lock.

The better question is do you actually think USC will run the ball down PSU's throat for 80yd drives? 

everyone talks about the OSU/USC game.. I don't like OSU, but still they were without Beanie Wells and couldn't even figure out which QB they were using that day. 

thus far they're only played 2 top 25 teams.. 1 of them they lost to (Oregon State).  The other was OSU w/o their star RB. 

of the teams they beat.. their oppoents total record is
49-55

so far this season their total opponnents records (including unplayed, ND and UCLA) is:
67-69

Their average opponent is below .500!!!!  So if anyone is judging their offense or defense, exactly who is it vs.?  Washington?  Washington St.?  Arz St? Standord?  My grandmother? Her grandmother? 

Utah and Boise St had a tougher schedule than USC.  USC should at least have to play 1 real team before going to a real bowl..

I'm just not getting it.  USC is the most overrated team around the top ten, and probably up there for top 3 most overrated in the country.  I would easily state Utah, Oklahoma St. and even TCU are much better.  Why is everyone always on the USC train?  They don't impress me much.
