Come on guys let's keep this poll going. The bigger this sample size gets, the more it represents the entire betting public. I would like to get this poll in the 100's.

Do you really think these numbers will help you out AT ALL on figuring out the consensus on this game? I know you aren't insinuating that covers is the entire betting public.

But with that being said, covers represents 0.000001% of the betting public. These numbers are based on who is on covers at the time of your thread and in no way represents an accurate consensus of bets. These numbers are such a small sample size that there is no way any of this can be useful in helping you make your bet. I really hope you aren't using these numbers in making your decision on who to bet.

It actually does represent an accurate consensus of bets. Didn't you take statistics?This is the same thing as using random sampling. The larger the sample size gets, the more it will make an actual representation of the betting public.
And no I am not using this to decide my bet. I already locked Troy in.

I agree with your statistics...but not your logic...I would argue that even though it is a miniscule part of the betting public, fading the popular pick in these forums is profitable in the long run.

Plus this thread was started to post who you are siding with...whatever anyone does with the data is their business...

I understand random sampling but like I said, this poll seems to more represent the bets of people on covers at the time of the poll compared to a realistic sample of bets. I'm not the biggest fan of online consensus's but I think the numbers you get on Vegas Insider or whatever else is out there is way more representative of tbe betting public instead of a random poll that gets 100 contributors max.

Anyways, you know I wasn't talking shit in any way. Just wanted to hope you weren't factoring these numbers into your bet in any way whatsoever.

i think it is time to put this thread to bed...

1) this thread does NOT by any stretch of the imagination represent the public, nor does it represent (in a "statistical sense") an accurate representation of the betting population at large... didn't YOU take statistics?  because if you did, you would know you aren't recreating any kind of a meaningful statistical population...

2) this thread is only one thing... an insult to everyone that has posted on it... this guy has already placed his bet, and is only trying to support it (for what reason, who the fuck knows) by trying to suggest that "the public is all over CMU"...

 

well, let me tell you this... the "public" was all over Iowa last night... and they were very much right... and if the "public" is all over CMU again tonight... then they will be very much right again...

I am not trying to confirm any bet that I locked in or trying to support my pick. If you didn't read the first post, I specifically asked people not to post write ups or reasoning. If I was, I would simply have made a Troy thread with a write up.

Since you want to be a jerk, go look up sampling on or statistical methods for sampling. It is obvious that 50 votes won't be an exact replication of the betting public but this is a random sampling test and it roughly represents a betting population at large. You may not believe it because the numbers are so small but this is the same way statisticians do it. I took over 3 statistics courses and I could care less what you think.

I see you like Central Michigan so I will add you.

If you don't like the idea, don't participate. I'm not posting a thread saying LOCK OF THE CENTURY or trying to persuade anyone to take a side. This is just to give people an idea of which side bettors on Covers are on.
