I know I'm not one of the highly regarded posters here on Covers, but I have a strong feeling on this game tonight and I'd like to share my writeup with the good people on this forum.
As much as this is a huge game for Florida International as they have already lost a conference game, and as much as I like Mario Cristobal as a coach and respect how he has turned around the FIU program, I think the Red Wolves of Arkansas State have a clear advantage in this game. Defensively, Arkansas State has standout players at d-back and free safety, and should do a nice job limiting the passing game and some of the big-play threats FIU has. Ark State has also not allowed an individual rusher to go over 100 yards against them, which bodes well for them slowing down Kendrick Rhodes and Darriet Perry. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few big plays from FIU's offense, but I think, especially given FIU's lack of success of third down, they will have trouble sustaining consistent offensive production throughout the game. On the flip side of this game, I see an FIU defense who has given up lots of yards in the passing game, is missing their senior free safety, going up against the Arky State team that is averaging over 300 yards through the air. I believe this is the matchup that is the difference in the game. Finally, Arkansas State's crowd should be rocking as they are fired up about the 2-0 start in conference (winning both on the road, including a win over perennial powerhouse Troy) and the prospects of winning the conference. Furthermore, Arkansas State has played the tougher schedule having faced Illinois and Virginia Tech, which seems to substantiate the stats that indicate that Ark State is a better football team. Best of luck everyone. Thoughts and comments welcome.
