Let us not forget Clemson has an atrocious defense.
Don't overreact to a small sample of games. Clemson's defense is one of the top 2 or three VPI will face this year. The reason to bet the Gobblers is the situation.
I just could not disagree more to be fair. This defensive line gets blown backward and the secondary leaves much to be desired.

BiB. I agree that weather could play a role in todays game. But here are a few facts that I think we need to talk about.
1. You dont really think V.T can hold Clemson to 7 points do you? That not happening.
2. Who has V.T played? I m not saying there not any good, but who have they played? The truth is none of us really know anything about this V.T squad.
3. I dont think these kids at Clemson will be intimidated at all. Boyd has shown that he can slice a defense up in a heat beat. He took FSU to the woodshed, and no offense... But I think that FSU defense is better than V.T
Look, it's going to be a 4 quarter close game. I think Clemson has a very legitimate shot at winning this game, Im not saying they will...but they have a good chance.

If I'm being honest I think it would take an amazing performance from the defense to hold them to 7. This defense is my favorite since my freshman year though. They have had a bend but not break approach for the last few years but they dont even bend this year. And yes I know they havent played the strongest competition but even last year they would give up chunks of yardage to the Marshalls and Arkansas Sts of the world. This year they dont. Ellington is going to have no room to run and Boyd can not keep up his mastery on 3rd down. That is going to be the spot that separates Clemson @ home from Clemson @ Lane.
2. Who has V.T played? I m not saying there not any good, but who have they played? The truth is none of us really know anything about this V.T squad.
Fair point. And the offense hasnt even looked strong against this poor competition as I stated.

I love Boyd and Watkins is very exciting to watch. Just dont think this is a good spot for Boyd to be introduced to a rowdy crowd. And you will find out you are dead wrong about the VT v. FSU defenses. VT is not LSU or Bama of course, but I wouldnt put another defense in the country above them outside of those 2.

You know I respect ya Boom and you have had 1 hell of a start to the season. Just going to respectfully disagree with you here. I will probably be on the Clemson TT Under as well.

does your special teams not concern you? FG kicker is 4/7 on season and missed his last 2 within 30 yds. Your punter is averaging about 20 yds per punt I believe?

Suprising start for the special teams but this is the first kicker we have ever given a scholarship too so I'm confident he will come around. Also just made a punter change and Danny Coale has been booting the ball around since his inclusion. Special teams is never a worry around Blacksburg

All these people just want to keep talking about who have they played? And based on that they make the assumption this team isn't any good and the value is on Clemson. I think we have lots of value here but its with the home team and agree with all your points. I don't think this game will ever be in doubt......I'll see you at the pay window.

Yes, I am homer. Yes, I want my Hokies to win more than anything.
Now that we have that out of the way, I believe I have been pretty subjective over the last few years and have actually bet against the Hokies more often than I bet on them.
I have a huge play on the Hokies tomorrow at -6.5 and figured I would get my perspective on this game out there even though fading me of late has been profitable..
I have watched the last 2 Clemson games in full(Auburn, FSU). They have definitely bought into their offensive coordinator and he is finally spreading the football around to the players who can make a difference for this team. They have been extremely fun to watch and one of the rare Clemson teams I can pull for. Watkins is an absolute bull and probably my favorite player to watch in CFB outside of Mathieu of course..Boyd is progressing and proving he can make plays, especially in the clutch on 3rd down, where they have been phenomenal this season..
VT has struggled a bit so far this season. Looking very impressive in the opener that I attended vs. Appy St. Looking like absolute shit against ECU. Looking mediocre against Arkansas St and then playing a pretty solid all around game in Marshall. I didnt expect too much from this team in the first 4 games to be honest, merely a chance to get Logan acclimated to the offense and avoid injuries along the way on offense. Well, Logan started out looking every bit of the QB that has rarely seen the field. In the opener he never once looked off of his first read and just chucked it as hard as he could. Of course it was Appy St. so we didnt have too much to worry about and our receivers were open all day for the first part so it didnt hurt us. Then we went out to ECU and they dont exactly have a defense to be afraid of, but they took away his first read and he was so confused he just tucked the ball and ran to no success. The coaches must have started drilling it into him against Arky St as he started scanning through several reads and never seemed to make the right one. Finally at Marshall he was going through his progressions well and was just lacking his 2 starters at receiver, which really did show. He will have Boykin back this week and Marcus Davis is finally starting to practice a bit better so should see the field as he is easily the most talented receiver we have. Losing Dyrell for the year is a big blow in the return game, but definitely replacable in the air.
1. The biggest thing that has impressed me with the Hokies this year is where I see the biggest separation between these two teams. The Hokies defensive line is awesome this year. They havent had a D-Line this strong since I attended the school as a freshman in '03. They dont necessarily have the one big talent off the edge that they have had in the past, but they do not get moved backward. They get off the ball so fast that it has been difficult for any team to sustain any type of offense. I dont see Ellington having any room to run at all, which leads to...
2. Boyd is still a first year starter heading into a night game in Lane Stadium. He has impressed at home and really excelled on 3rd down but this is a completely different situation. Let's toss in one of the noisiest stadiums in the country going crazy on every 3rd down and see how we rate him at the end of this game. He is going to have his go to target blanketed by Hosley with help from Whitley over the top. Hosley is one of, if not the best, cover corners in the country and Watkins doesnt run a precise enough route yet in my opinion. Pressure on Boyd should cause some turnovers as the Hokies have been the most opportunistic defense in the country over the last 10 years.
3. Let us not forget Clemson has an atrocious defense. And that is at home. The Hokies offense has not been world beaters, but David Wilson should have huge holes to run through and is as dangerous as anyone outside of LaMichael James in the country.
4.And the one I deem the most important to the outcome of this game. The weather at game time tomorrow. It's not going to be the ideal passing conditions Boyd is looking for. You can expect the usual Blacksburg shitty weather. We are talking winds upward of 25 mph, rain and cold. It will not play to Clemsons strengths and will play right into what VT is going to try to do. They will be able to pound the ball with the big lineman getting off the snap and letting David Wilson win them the game. Expect a huge game from Mr. David Wilson
5. VT just owns Clemson. I have not been alive for a single game between these teams in which this matchup was competitive. The last 2 times these teams have played the Hokies have knocked the Tigers off of their high and sent them into a tailspin. Revenge factor? Maybe. But when Beamer owns a squad, he typical continues to own that squad.
Of course this is just my opinion and I'm sure I'll have some differing opinions from everyone. I know I'm a little late to the discussion but been pretty busy this week.
VT -6.5
VT - 31 Clemson - 7
I have a pair of shoes older than you.

Bendi,
i read your post, and know you are going to take VT 10 out of 10 times. I'm just saying in this case, the line seems a bit high.
I think a field goal is going to decide this game, and VT's kicker is struggling. That said, Clemson's kicker missed a fg or two last week if I recall correctly.
There is no way this is going to be a one sided blowout.
This is the best Clemson team to take the field in a long, long time, and I'm a GA fan - we used to HATE Clemson.
As far as the comments about "getting up" for a game?? These guys aren't going to have any problem there - on either side.

Hokie Alum here checking in! Graduated in December '08. I was on that 4.5 year plan - played my cards right to get an extra football season. Parents have had season tickets to the VT games since I was 8 years old.
Enough about that, this game is going to be LEGIT! Hokies win, but the spread scares me so I'm staying away. Tajh going to shit his britches when Metallica plays and all 66,000 hokie strong are jumping up and down! Hosley going to have a big day! The #90th ranked Clemson D giving up almost 5 yards/rush, David Wilson should find plenty of holes, I agree with you there!
Atmosphere is going to be ELECTRIC! Going to be 40ish degrees...I don't know how anybody can 100% back Clemson in these conditions, but then again, I'm a HUGE homer as well! Good luck!

Good luck bibendi, but to think that your Hokies are going to limit these Tigers to 7 points is laughable. If they do i promise I'll be the first one to come back and give you your due as a genious.
This should be a very entertaining game to watch, the only thing that I hate about Tech games is the amont of air time that they spend talking about and showing Bud Foster. And enough already with that guy with the orange wig and the lunch bucket, he always gets too much attention as well.

Grew up in VA, now live in SC. Id like to add that in SC if theres a drop of rain they cancel the game for high school teams around here. They go on to college not knowing how to play in bad weather. If the weather is bad, Clemson will throw 50 screen passes instead of their normal 40. Ask Jacoby Ford how he likes catching the screen against a physical VT defense.
Having said that, I like the under.
At least Clemson is smart enough to learn the way to an ACC championship is getting a QB from Hampton, Va. But not this week.
