A coach chooses a team banquet: an event that is supposed to celebrate your outgoing seniors and the successful season you've had, to announce that he's walking out on them three weeks before they're slated to play the biggest game in their lives.
And you talk about immaturity?
Like they say on NFL live, c'mon man.
c'mon man what? I am in the middle of Kansas and I knew he was going to take the Job. Cincy is just mad because they are going back to obscurity just like WVU did when Rich Rod left.
Would you rather they hear it on Sportscenter? Gimmie Break!

As I stated earlier: A head coach that is doing the right thing in that situation would not feel the need for 2 police officers as security detail at a team banquet.
That fact alone tells you he KNEW he was foul for what he was doing and how he was doing it. And you're defending him.

Nobody blames Kelly for wanting to coach at Notre Dame. It’s a dream job for some. That’s not the issue.
The issue is him being dishonest about his intentions to stay at UC, accepting the job at ND, and then telling his team that he is turning his back on them at a team banquet of all places. The banquet is supposed to be about accomplishment, and recognizing the acheivements of a great season thus far. Not for your coach to tell you that he’s bailing on you. Especially not before the biggest game school history. He knew he, and the situation was foul. He knew what he did and was about to do was completely classless. That’s why he was walking around the banquet surrounded by police officers.
That team gave him all they had this year. Yes he was the mastermind of the scheme, but it was those players that were responsible for making him look good. The way that they performed over the last two years gave Kelly the shine and profile to even show up on Notre Dame’s radar to begin with. That team played it’s heart out last week in cold, snowy Pittsburgh to keep their dreams alive. And after all that, he turns his back on, and walks out on that team before the biggest game in the history of the program. Disgusting.
Kelly is extremely classless, and Notre Dame is extremely arrogant for this mess.
well said....
from what I read he told them before the Pitt game that he wasn't going anywhere...that's why they're pissed
I'm glad to hear the players talking about how this is there biggest game ever...(respect for the tradition of the Sugar Bowl)

I would just cancel the Sugar Bowl. Cincy will be led by an assistant who probably doesn't have a chance to become the next head coach and Florida will not be motivated for this game.
I love posting forums...Everyone thinks they have all the answers and are right. This couldn't be further from the truth! Quinn has been his right nut since the GV days. Who do you think took C. Mich on to win the bowl game when Kelly left for Cinn? Cinn will win if not cover this game! Vegas loves this kind of drama! Than once they win, Quinn will go back into the nut sac at ND! He doesn't want the job at Cinn!

Yeah OKAY Buddy. He is going to start recruiting a month later? Here's your sign. I understand this is Cincy's biggest game, but that doesn't change the fact that it is HISTORY for him! It's fucking Cincinatti. Gimmie a fuckin break. He is moving on to greener pastures and Cincy wants them to hold their hands while they play. Boo fucking hoo. I was going to take Cincy had he stayed, now I am rolling all the dice on FL.
And here's something else I forgot to mention. You talk about how he needed to get started immediately on recruiting as logic for him bolting the way he did.
Well ye of bad memory, Urban Meyer took the Florida job while he was still at Utah. Remember that? He kept his integrity, and stayed with the team till the end and coached them in the bowl game. He missed a month of recruiting for the Gators, but obviously that didn't hurt them too much.
You're officially out of excuses for Brian Kelly now.

the Cincy players feel betrayed, which is natural for college kids who probably considered Kelly a father figure, the guy was like a Messiah in the state of Ohio
here are some facts
Kelly had to get started on recruiting for Notre Dame, he is way behind right now
Kelly raised the draft status of Cincy's top players by alot so he will make them enough money to make up for leaving, he has done more them than they have for him
Kelly put Cincy football on the map and made the school an absolute ton of money gonig to 2 straight BCS bowls
I feel bad for the Cincy players but that is the nature of the business, Kelly faced his team and told them he was leaving, the guy is an Irish Catholic, what did people expect him to do, Notre Dame was his dream job, plain and simple
I like how some of you are quick to judge, here is a scenario for you
if you were working on a year long project for your company and you were in the 11th month of the project (almost done) and another company came along and offered you twice as much money as you were currently making then what choice would you make? would you pass on the money so people didn't "think negative" of you? or would you jump on the opportunity for yourself and your family? EXACTLY, get a grip people and use your brain before you make stupid comments
However all you have to say is let me finish here and I will get back to you. ND wanted him no matter what. He could have played hard to get. Plus I hate comparisons of real life jobs. You mean to tell me if he BEATS FLORDIA major schools would have never offered him an opportunity?
How about this? What if he goes to a kids home and he and his parents ask him "How do I know that you will be there after a few years if another school becomes interested and offers you way more money? Can you guarantee that because you have already screwed over a lot of kids with this descion."
Karma is a bitch and ND is not an elite program anymore. Haven't been since the late 80's early 90's. I hope he fails there.

He'll probably pull a "Crabtree" to whichever team that drafts him. This is a bunch of BS. Can't blame the man for leaving to something that will provide security for him and his family's future. Besides, with the way the BCS is, Cincy will never get a chance to make it to the title game anyway, now or in the future.
I agree 100% if any year it was this year as they beat more rank teams than texas or TCU and still dont get in BS
