ok, the bowl season is right around the corner, but there's only like 1 good college game this weekend -- Army vs Navy. Navy is obviously the better team favored by 14 points, but this is a rivalry game, so should I take Army +14 ?? Navy didn't look that great when they lost to a weak Hawaii team, although they did beat Notre Dame, but who didn't. I never watched Army at all this season, so I'm really not sure about their situation. Any thoughts on this game?

This is a rivalry game. Remember when A&M almost beat Texas when Texas was favored by 3 TD's? I see the same situation here. Army isn't bad. They beat Vanderbilt. Navy lost to a weak Hawaii team, and Navy's Defense is small, and made Hawaii's QB look like Donovan McNabb.

The only time they throw the ball it is literally a lob to their 6'9" receiver who also sucks. I would be totally SHOCKED if Army scores 10 points in this game. Good luck - Navy is the play

like Air Force game....army there.....navy at home army had 236 TO....navy 209 both had 10 1st downs army av 4 yds/rush......navy 3.1 af managed 261 yds vs army (3.1/rush)......240 vs navy (3.5/rush)
both played temple.....again army there.....navy at home army 256 TO......navy 254 army 15 1st downs.....navy 14 army 3.8/rush.....navy 3.7 temple managed 195 TO vs army.......311 vs navy... 80 yds rushing vs army (2.1/rush).....274 vs navy (8.1/rush) note: temple RB pierce left at end of 1st 1/2 in army game (had 65yds or so)
army is just a team with VERY little talent......as you can see they CAN stay in games.....problem is they faded BIG TIME as season wore on.....their defense is much improved and is designed to stop the run.....not to bore with technical stuff.....they run the Desert Swarm D that Zona ran when Dick Tomey was there....actually a variation of..(toughest D to run on/block according to many coaches)...mistakes at critical times actually cost them several games... ...can't recommend playing them here....just saying would hesitate before making navy a strong play

I already placed my bet yesterday , and I already took Army +14. As bookieassasin mentioned, Army isn't chopped liver. Look at the stats when both teams played Air Force and Temple. Good luck whatever team you pick.

Army is slightly underatted this year. They have a good running game and I think their defense will come to play in this rivalry game. If they can stop the option of Navy early this will be a good matchup. I like Army +14 and under 41.

I'm bias here being a Navy sailor, but I only need to look to last year's results when they played. I see similar results in this game as well. Army simply lacks the talent compared to Navy on this year's squad.

Not only that, but those graduating seniors will be going on to their naval careers in Surface Warfare within weeks soon so that plays a lot into the thought process of that game.
In short, Navy is more battle tested and more talented across the board. Can Army cover? Of course they can, but like Charles Barkley said, "I might be wrong, but I doubt it."

Why would Navy practice against the triple option "all the time", if they have to prepare against a pro offense like Notre Dame, or a spread offense like Hawaii ? Wouldn't you want to have a defensive gameplan based on the offense you are facing?

Why would Navy practice against the triple option "all the time", if they have to prepare against a pro offense like Notre Dame, or a spread offense like Hawaii ? Wouldn't you want to have a defensive gameplan based on the offense you are facing?

Good questions. I said they face, not gameplan for, the triple option offense every week. There are times in EVERY practice where the first team offense and first team defense go against each other (some time full speed, other times walk through). Navy runs a triple option offense, hence the defense sees it week in and week out.
One of Army's only advantages is that it is hard for opponents to mimic and execute their offense to prepare for it defensively, this one and only advantage is non-existent in this situation.
Now the same argument can be maid for Army, but they aren't as deep, aren't as athletic, don't execute nearly as well, and are EXTREMELY limited in the passing game. If (when) they fall behind early, they don't have the ability to shift gears.
In the games they have won, or atleast covered (only 4 out of 11), North Texas, VMI, Vandy, they led or was within one touchdown the entire game. If Navy gets out to a fast start, look out.
Last year, Army had a more accomplished qb (Chip Bowden) and fb (Collin Mooney) and they only gained 102 yards for the entire game, now they have a true freshman qb, less established rbs and even less of a passing game.

that's funny you bring that up.....how many times have you heard announcers on TV say that BS ?.......answer : the hell they do....they are more accustomed to it (early fall camp....spring?...esp cut blocking).......STUPID as hell to work against your own GD offense when other team runs something totally different.....
