OK PEOPLE, SANITY NOW!!
So you can ALL understand - - NO UNDEFEATED TEAM FROM A BCS CONFERENCE (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC, etc.) has EVER BEEN JUMPED BY A ONE-LOSS TEAM FOR A NATIONAL TITLE GAME UNDER THE BCS FORMAT. EVER!
It's not going to happen now. If Penn State is undefeated, and if Texas Tech or Bama lose just ONE game, Penn State will be in the national title game.
And let's please get off this comparing Ohio State's performance in the national title game the last two year's to what Penn State might do. OSU is 0-8 all-time vs. the SEC in bowls. Penn State's bowl record against the SEC over the last 25 years or so has been excellent. Let's see - - beat Georgia for the national title in 1982, trounced Tennessee in the Citrus and Fiesta Bowls in 1991 and 1993 by scores of 42-17 and 31-13. Beat Auburn in the Outback Bowl in 1995 something like 41-14. Beat Kentucky and Tim Couch on New Year's day in 1999 and beat Tenn. two years ago with a shitty QB in Morelli. Lost to Auburn in 2002 13-7.
As for the Big 12, beat Ricky Williams and Texas in 1996 Fiesta, 38-15, beat A&M in 1999, 24-0, and beat A&M last year.
Penn State has one of the best all-time bowl records. They know how to win bowl games given all that time to prepare. Penn State rarely gets blown out in bowls like OSU the last two years.
As for the silly comments about how Florida would destroy Penn State, people said the same thing about Miami against Penn State in 1986, said the same thing about PSU-Georgia in 1982, the same thing about PSU-Tenn. two years ago, and on and on.
Penn State, don't let the black shoes fool you, they have speed. They might not win the national title game if they get there, but trust me, they will not be embarassed. That's coaching staff has been thorugh too many bowl games together - - they know what to do and their track record proves it.
And let's not compare USC's win to Penn State's win against OSU as a measure of something. USC was at home in the 2nd game of the year. PSU went on the road to OSU for a night game. Big difference. OSU had almost all of their starters back from last year's national title game run and were picked nationally pre-season in every publication or poll in the top 5. I know defense is not as glamorous as 39-33 games, but it is part of the game.
Also, Penn State had Alabama on the schedule a few years ago for this season, but Bama asked Penn State to be let out of it because they were on probation at the time. Oregon State is a legit non-conference game. Temple and Coast Carolina are not but every one of those SEC and Big 12 teams you are talking up have teams like on their schedule. And in most years, a 3 straight game gauntlet of at Wisconsin, Michigan and at Ohio State would be murderous. Not Penn State's fault Wisconsin and Michigan chose to have down years this year.
Penn State is as worthy as anyone of a national title championship game appearance if they go undefeated.
