I know you leaned Duquense +6 and not play them...does the huge rebounding edge Pitt has now that Pitt's two of its top rebounders, Patterson & Taylor keeping you from making Duq a play? Its a big City rivalry...I know you hate chalk, but surprised you didnt lean Pitt -6.

@nropp, how do you see this whole Minnesota situation shaking out tonight? the fact that Va Tech is a 3-point dog in the Gophers' first game without Mbakwe doesn't make sense to me, especially considering how well they played against Syracuse at MSG the other night. isn't Mbakwe just way too important to that team for them to remain competitive now without him?
another line i'm having trouble with is Rhode Island layin only 5 to Brown, who they've thrashed by 20+ each of the last two seasons... Rhode Island returns more key players than Brown, who I can't imagine has brought in enough talent to close the gap all that much.
I have no feel on the Minnesota game. As for the Rhode Island/Brown matchup, I haven't finished all the way up with my IVY stuff, and haven't gotten too Brown yet, but assuming they have five guys on the court that have some resemblance of knowledge of the game of basketball, they'll have a chance to win. Rhode Island's playing like they've packed it in and waiting for the semester. They get some studs that become eligible at the break and they need them pretty bad. Baron acknowledged prior to the season that the goal was to be ready for A-10 play, and that's when his kid (the stud from Virginia) becomes eligible, so stay away from this team in the meantime.
It was a big reason I took a shot with Boston U a few days back. Not saying they don't have a chance tonight, Rhody appears to be more talented and probably more athletic, but the effort department is lacking.

Neil, I have MUCH respect for your BB acumen, but just can see no positives in the Drexel play. St Joe has played a much tougher sched., w/a better record. Your thoughts. Is that really you??
Sort of branches off my Seton Hall over St. Joe's play earlier in the year. St. Joe's will struggle with teams who defend the guards exceptionally well, and Drexel fits this tonight. Drexel's offense has looked pretty bad, but a lot of this has to do with the absence of Fouch. What I'm about to say really doesn't apply to really any other team in the country, but when he's in the game he shoots it a heckuva lot. He doesn't shoot it all that well, but when he misses, this team excels at grabbing his offensive rebounds.
Without him being a huge part of the offense, the team looks lost in terms of who is going to shoot the ball. With him, they're much better even if he misses those shots. Yah, that probably doesn't make a ton of sense to most of you, and I probably could have worded it a bit better, but that's the basis of this offense. With him, they get more shots up, and with him, they get more misses, but more opportunities.
Aside from that, the emotion that St. Joe's put into beating a bad Penn State prior to that tip was evident in their performance, so I'm expecting a slight letdown, and never a good thing when you're going to need scoring from some other outlet that Jones. Jones will get his points (he had 20 last year in the loss), so someone else is going to have to beat me from outside for this one to tank. If it happens, so be it, but I have more faith in Drexel's perimeter defense than any other in the country, especially when healthy.

Im thinking ISU/UNI over 131.5 might be a play. I know UNI likes to slow it down and play 1/2 court offense. But I think the Cyclones have the athletes to keep the pace up tempo with 5-10 turnovers causing fast break pts. Last year both teams shot 33% for a 114 total with the same 131.5 total..I think these teams shoot closer to 45%, ISU can put up 20-25 3pt shots, and UNI stays with in 7-10 towards the end, the free throws will put the game in the high 130's. Your angle?
ISU is tough to figure out. And playing a UNI over is scary. About as far as I got. Will root you on...

Gottfried's defensive philosophy, Indiana's first travel outside of the state, and while it doesn't really look like a big win over Butler, Crean and his crew prepped for that game like it was the national title of all national titles. Indiana has yet to show that it can defend against a team that has any sort of offense. Can they score? Yes, they can score in bunches. Can they outscore the other team who scores in bunches as well....on the road? That's my stab at NC State here.
