Drexel heads to Harrisonburg tomorrow to play a thin, injured JMU team that dressed just 7 scholarship players vs Delaware on Saturday. JMU is 2-8 ATS at home this year, and things just keep getting worse. They were so small coming into the season after losing a star in Denzel Bowles, and now that forwards Julius Wells and Trevon Flores are (probably) out for the season, they only have 3 players who can even play down low, and only one of them has really done anything this season (Seminov). They've relied way too much on their small guards, which is evidenced by them being #38 in the country at reliance on 3-pointers. JMU's stayed competitive in some games, but their 7-man rotation often leads to them getting gassed in the 2nd half, and Coach Brady knows this for fact. I tried to find a quote of an interview I read a week or two back but I couldn't...he said something along the lines of "all that teams need to do is press and play faster and eventually we'll be too exhausted. They know this and it's frustrating." JMU keeps losing in wars of attrition, and if Drexel has the right approach they will have the edge here again. Anyway, I really don't think that will be too much of a factor in this game as Drexel is a slow team, but just want to emphasize how small and short-handed JMU is. They also have a horrible home court. The Convocation Center is a joke.
The Dragons are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games, and have won 17 of their last 18. They're clearly the best team in the CAA right now, as they've improved their offense since conference play has begun and now they're just extremely balanced on both sides of the ball.
They have double revenge in this game after losing to JMU twice last season. How that happened, I have no idea. But Drexel is 22-2 in their last 24 home games, and JMU was one of those two losses. JMU is the last team that Drexel lost to on their home court. So I'm hoping they remember losing those two games on a season where they went 21-10, and this team returns 89% of their offense and 87% of their defense this year.
Anyway...that's the background story, but what I really like about this is the match-up. All JMU does is jack up a TON of threes. They're #38 in the country at relying on the three. Unfortunately for them, Drexel is #1 in the entire country at defending the three-pointer. They are also #2 at defensive rebounding, #6 at defensive effective FG%, and just #35 overall at defensive efficiency.
Don't be fooled by Drexel's rebounds per game. The number looks average, but in reality, they're #9 in the entire country at total rebound rate. That number's just deflated by their extremely slow tempo. Drexel is just way too physical and tough for JMU. They're going to slaughter them on the glass (JMU is #259 at offensive rebounding and #282 at defensive), and I doubt JMU will be able to match them on the scoreboard. JMU's been horrible defensively, allowing 80 points in 3 of the last 4 games.

Southern Miss is coming off an emotional win against Memphis, but tomorrow's game @ UAB will be a full week later, and Larry Eustachy says his team is focus and ready and still hungry. They are still playing with a chip on their shoulder after finding out in practice yesterday afternoon that they were once again left out of the national rankings, and they know the only thing they can do is keep on winning to gain that respect.

I know in football this has been the big rivalry last few years in C-USA. But hoops, I'm kind of just assuming everyone's rival is memphis. Just touching all bases here as I have been on the Tulsa train with you.
Second, would you consider betting lighting/action points in hoops ever? I rarely do it, but considering taking UNC in "lightning points" tonight. I think all UNC backers need for a blowout is just a B game out of them. Thanks in advance.

I profited, but barely. I just had no free time last year. This year I'm able to watch hoops 5-6 nights a week and it makes such a different watching games than looking at a bunch of box scores and stats. My record is at like 56% for the year but I'm pretty sure it's been about 60% since 2012. I've basically just had a 9-5 M-F and it's been awesome.

Agreed, Pope makes all the difference. I can tell by just looking at the line being -1 that he hasn't been ruled out. If he's out that line will jump..but I'm guessing he will play...I don't know how his ribs are though. I tried to find some info last night but couldn't find anything.
Seton Hall is in pure desperation mode after dropping 7 straight and getting absolutely embarrassed at UConn. They'll play solid defense and force a ton of turnovers out of this young (but talented) Rutgers team that still makes tons of bonehead mistakes. But will the offense be there? I'm not willing to bet on it. I think if SH can get some of their swag back offensively, they win.
The RAC is a surprisingly intimidating court, but I can imagine there will be a ton of SH fans there. I think it's only a half hour or so drive up the parkway.

I think everyone just tails on the UAB/Memphis rivalry. Typically no bad blood between Houston and Tulsa I dont think (maybe in football). You're right though, Tulsa might be looking to give Houston a whoopin', but that's because they got ousted in OT @ Houston a month ago. That game was horrible. I had the misfortune of betting on Tulsa and having to watch that game. Felt robbed.
But regardless of that loss, Houston is NOT look-ahead material. Tulsa also lost to SMU in a much more heart-breaking game, and they had to play a much tougher UCF team just three days before that rematch. They didn't look distracted when they beat UCF, or when they beat SMU.
