Mercy, Mercy me

Just one play for tonight:

Detroit Mercy Titans +1.5: Not sure why the line ended up here after sitting at -2.5 late last night, but it did. Detroit, back from the dead after a couple of horrific seasons, is in the mix with a boatload of teams to finish in the top 5 of the Horizon League, which would give them a campus home game in the 2nd round conference tournament before the scene shifts to Indy for the last 3 rounds of the tournament. Milwaukee has played a bit better of late but have been largely underwhelming since losing star Seth Hubbard to a season-ending shoulder injury. The Panthers have dealt with injuries all year and have already lost 2 others to season-ending injuries. Detroit won the first meeting by 10 so Milwaukee certainly has the revenge factor, but I think the Titans have the motivation to go out and get this done at home. 0.75 units.

Mount St. Mary -7.5: I couldn't resist one more. Mountaineers (8-8) are pretty predictable in that they lose to the top teams in the MAAC, but beat the bottom feeders. Niagara at 4-12 is all but assured to be joining Canisius and Rider as the 3 teams who will miss out on the conference tournament. They are 3 full games behind Iona with only 4 games left and they know they are toast. MSM, on the other hand, is in a scrap with 4 other teams (Fairfield, S. Heart, Manhattan and Iona) to finish 6th in the MAAC, which would give them the coveted bye in the first round of the conference tournament. Hopefully they don't mess around with this woeful Niagara team tonight and go out and take command early on their home court. MSM won the first meeting by 10 at Niagara. 0.5 units.

Just thought it was interesting that MS Mary is 8-1 against the teams below them in the standings, with the one loss to Sacred Heart back on Dec. 3. And Sacred Heart is only a half game behind them ...

Meanwhile, MSM is 0-7 combined against Merrimack, St. Peter's, Siena, Quinnipiac and Marist (oddly enough they don't play Fairfield until the last game of the regular season).
