I agree with most of your post except the bold. For you to claim he will outcoach Calhoun severely is ludicrous. Calhoun is one of the best college coaches. Many have already seen him outcoach Coach K throughout his career on route to the 2 national championships. IF not for his coaching decision to keep Okafor out for the whole 1st half against Duke in 2004; there would be no 2nd national championship. Or even take 1999 when the whole World except for the state of Connecticut gave UConn a chance in that title game. Calhoun has shown time in and out to be one of the best coaches given the situation.
I am not taking anything away from Pitino as he has done a wonderful job at ever University but that last comment is unwarranted. As you stated Louisville is the better team and deeper. How can Calhoun be outcoached severely if he is already at a clear disadvantage: personnel wise and situational wise... If anything it will be Calhoun's coaching that will put the team in a position to have a chance to win the game today even though I do not believe UConn will get it done tonight.
a rare agreeance with Jpero... this is a good anaylsis of the two coaches... he did say he was a LVille homer

I respect your opinion jpero, but tonight is a different situation. UCONN is a thin team. Beverly is the only bench player who logged significant minutes vs. Indiana. It will be the same tonight, they've basically got five guys. UCONN will likely be forced to play a low possession game and hope for no foul trouble. Calhoun will not have the luxury of playing multiple styles. On the other hand, Pitino has a deep bench with which he can force tempo, attack the interior very aggressively, and play multiple defensive styles to either guard the interior or pressure UCONN's thin backcourt. The pressure to stay composed this evening will not fall on the road team, but happens to be directly applied to the home team.

Beverly was not the only bench player who received significant playing time.
Craig Austrie led the team in scoring and he is a bench player who had to be inserted into the starting line up because of the suspensions. He is the same point guard that led the Huskies when Marcus Williams was suspended. He is a solid player who knows his role on the team and IMO is the most sturdy guard other than Price.
Curtis Kelly will also receive increased minutes, as he did last game. He was New York State Player of the Year coming out of high school but has yet to show that prowess for UConn. He has shown glimpses and UConn will not have a problem putting a large lineup out there that has Thabeet, Adrian, Kelly, Price, and then Beverly/Robinson/Austrie. With that lineup there is only Price or Beverly that are under 6'8 and Price is 6'2 while Beverly is 6'4.
UConn will not score outside very much but if you cannot stop them inside and fouls start to mount then the backcourt weakness will not present itself.

I wouldn't argue that UCONN is a solid team, as they have proven that over the last few games. They may receive a slight contribution from their bench, but Louisville is the deepest team they will probably see all year. UCONN will not dominate the inside tonight, as Louisville is just too deep at the 4-5 spots. It should be a good game. Good luck with whatever you decide to play.

UCONN's bench contributed 31 minutes, 5 points on 2-6 shooting, and 3 rebounds vs. Indiana. That is not much of a contribution.
I think you are missing the point that I have said Louisville will win this game.
I am simply educating you about UConn basketball because you do not have a great understanding. UConn goes 5-6 deep at the Center and PF positions. They have more depth than Louisville up front. Thabeet and Adrian and then Curtis Kelly, Gavin Edwards, and Jonathan Mandeldove come off the bench and provide rebounding and defense. They are not asked to come into the game and score points thus the stats you supplied are useless. Also every once in a while Stanley Robinson is played at PF when UConn plays 3 guards.
Austrie is a bench player. Not a starter. He had 15 points last game. You can say what you want that he started last game but in reality he is a bench player. UConn's weakness is their backcourt with 2 of their better guards out. They will continue to rebound well and score inside.
The more and more I think about this game; I consider it a no play. My first instinct is Louisville wins straight up. However UConn can cause match up problems, as they did against Indiana, and if their defense is as stingy then they can come out with a hard fought victory at home.

Kelly, Edwards, and Mandeldove had 2 pts and 2 rebounds combined for the 15 minutes they played. They are not deeper than Louisville in the frontcourt, not even close. Thank you for your attempt to help me understand UCONN basketball. I'm not saying they can't win with basically five guys, I just think it is unlikely that they pull it off against a team as deep and dynamic as Louisville. I did state that I'm a Louisville homer, but I'm not some frat guy going to games and binge drinking if they win or lose. I can look at Louisville from an unbiased perspective. Thus, I can hopefully notice the gap between perception and realty. The perception is that UCONN is on the rise after two emotional road victories. They could have just as easily lost vs Cincy. Gotta give them credit vs. Indiana though the inexperience of Indiana's youth didn't help. The realty is that UCONN is paper thin and will be overmatched tonight. We haven't seen Louisville's best play yet, but it is much more likely to occur tonight than UCONN's best. Enjoy the game jpero.

Uconn is at the Civic Center and have a bunch of talented colored players that are realizing they can compete with ANYONE especially with Thabeet being a beast down low.........BIG EAST=home team at least for the most part, i see no reason to bet against a UCONN team hitting its stride and back at home. Line is a little shady thought it may be 2 or 3, but books are just playing mind games. TAKE UCONN, the suspensions i believe actually help uconn control the game better, cuz price is smart.
