I had no action on either side (although I did have Texas in my bracket to advance).

In NCAA, after the ref has counted to 4, you can not call a timeout.

You have all admitted in your posts that the ref got to 4, and the Texas player called a timeout. You are admitted the ref was correct when you make this statement.

You still have until 5 SECONDS to get the ball in-bounds.

Because you have 5 seconds to inbound the ball before a turnover....

Ref counts to 4.
Texas Player turns to call timeout.
Ref calls 5 seconds.

After getting to 4, do you think the process of the Texas player turning to the ref and asking for timeout to more or less than 1 second?

That's the specific rule. There's no gray area.

I had no action on this game either but my internal clock was definitely somewhere around 4 when the ref called the 5 second call.  It seemed like the ref was counting too fast.  Again, I said it "seemed" like the ref counted too fast.  Oh well, thats basketball.

In my opinion, the 5-second call was a make-up call for not calling a foul for Williams on the previous play.

It really worked out for the worst for Texas, as Hamilton ended up giving a 3-point play instead.

Good game though.

Yes its the rule...but often times is ignored...some rules are often  overlooked.

How many times do you see people step in before they inbound balls after a field goal is scored? Happens almost every game but isn't called 95% of the time.

It was a tough call based on the circumstances. It was the right call but I think we as spectators have been spoiled in the past with the to's being granted.

Am glad I had no horse in the game...tough way to lose certainly...but it was the right call by rule

Actually, that's not a rule in NCAA men's basketball.  Rule 7, Section 6 which governs throw-ins, does not make this stipulation, nor is it in Rule 9 Section 5 which governs throw-in penalties contains any stipulation that would prelude the calling of a time out by a player after the 4th count of a 5 count.

OMG if I read another thread about this. 

This rule was changed YEARS ago you idiots.  There is no such rule anymore so stop with the nonsense. Some of you are just making stuff up now like "it's mostly ignored".  Where do you people come up with this crap?
