Kramer's November 2014 NCAAB Thread

Hey all!

I'm back for the 2014-15 season. Some of you might remember me from last year....great run through November & December and fizzled out about mid-January. Some how when everyone else was figuring things out and getting hot I got stuck in a slump I couldn't get out of.

Anyway, another year of college BBall is upon us. I have a new baby daughter and I'll tell ya - "Me time" ain't what it used to be! So I may not have the time I had last year but I do consider this a fun hobby and I'll try to keep it up as much as possible.

Those of you who know me know I play every game the same except for "Kramer Specials" which are usually 2 times the bet. And I only post it if I play it - meaning if I start to slump (and you guys will see it) I'll stop posting and follow along with some of the other smart folks on here.

Mississippi-12: Most of my early picks will be similar in that they will involve a smaller school on the road at a power conference team....for me it comes down to a simple question....is a mid-level SEC team double digits plus better than a mid-level Big South team?....Ole Miss lost Marshall Henderson so they will be quieter this season but still a team with a star & go-to scorer (Jarvis Summers) with some nice pieces around him....gimme the BCS school at home on opening nite to cruise by 15-20

Marshall -4: Once again looking at value here as a big (or at least bigger than Jacksonville St.) school plays at home on opening nite....don't get me wrong - Marshall will be at the bottom of Conference USA....in fact this might be the only time I play them all year but I just see them winning by double digits tonite vs. a low level Ohio Valley team who might be among the 40 worst teams in Division I

So. Carolina -12: No. Florida MIGHT make some noise later in the Atlantic Sun conference but tonite on the road the Ospreys will be outclassed....the backcourt of Ty Johnson & Sindarius Thornwell should be more than enough to give the Gamecocks a 15-20 point victory....this SC team won't be great but it's probably Frank Martin's best squad since he took over

Adding Wisconsin -28 vs. No. Kentucky to my card....not great logic to it....the nite has been going good for Top 25 teams laying big chalk....Wisconsin returns everyone from a team that was oh so close to the title game last year....I think they'll open up the season with a 35+ point win over a mid-level Atlantic Sun team

USC -10: I'm a sucker for BCS schools at home early on vs. mid-majors or small schools....Coach Andy Enfield came to LA from Cindarella Florida Gulf Coast with high hopes....in year two he'll be starting from scratch talent-wise and may struggle to win even 3 or 4 Pac-12 games....tonite however I believe they are double digits better than a middle-of-the-road (although on the rise) Big Sky school

Not a great slate of bball games today....NCAA football is still center stage....GL today gentlemen!

USC -10 I think I just wanted to pay a unit to see how bad this USC train wreck is....lesson learned

Charlotte U -4: Elon had a nice little opening nite home win over a better-than-you-think Florida Atlantic but this is a whole different level....even playing at home Elon will not be able to keep up with Pierria Henry and the Rams....this Charlotte team is very deep and very balanced....up to 5-6 guys on this squad could pop off double digits scoring on any given nite....Charlotte wins by 12+

Wyoming -12: Vegas really selling the Cowboys short here as this upper-half Mountain West team playing at home should put away the middle-of-the-pack Big Sky team in No. Colorado....with their 3 retuning starters and Larry Nance Jr. back from injury watch for this team to prove Vegas wrong all season long

I may have one or two more tomorrow....if not GL guys!

Illinois guy here as well .. Nice plays today !! I like Texas to roll again today .. They are my dark horse team to win it all ..!!

Looks like Charlotte is a popular pick today....scary.
And I really like Texas this year too....winning it all is a stretch but they have the ingredients for a nice run.
I'm adding Stanford -19 at home vs. So. Dakota....although the Cardinal lost some key pieces from last year's tourney team that backcourt of Brown & Randle with Nastic inside should be able to beat a lower division Summit League team by at least 25+

Northwestern -1: Even on the road I gotta think a low-end Big 10 lineup beats a middle-of-the-pack Ivy League school....with JerShon Cobb, Tre Demps, and the big seven footer Alex Olah Northwestern has some decent returning role players....even if they have rough going later on in the Big 10 I believe they get it done on the road on Monday

That might be my only one on Monday....lots of games so maybe something else will catch my eye....

Brings me to 4-3 on the year....not bad but need to get focused....be back later in the day

Thanks Upside! The line moved quite a bit against me up till gametime....usually not a good sign!

Utah +5: I know Viejas is traditionally a tough place to play....I just think this Utah team will keep it close or maybe even pull off the upset....the Utes are deep, balanced, & battle-tested as they return 4 starters....the Aztecs lost their motor from last season Xavier Thames plus all-world rebounder Josh Davis and while they have some nice building blocks they may struggle early on in these marquee matchups
BOL everyone....may have 1 or 2 more later....I can't even focus on work today....I'll have to remember to ask for this day off next year!

Utah +5 WINNER! Although lots of folks were on that one so I'm glad we all cashed....

Oklahoma -4: I'm from Omaha & I follow Creighton basketball closely....this team will not be as bad as the analysts are suggesting....but it will be tough sledding early on especially tonite against Buddy Hield and the Sooners....shoulda grabbed this one last nite at -2 and it's climbing now....I had to buy a 1/2 point to get to -4

Why would you buy a half a point get on a whole number? Typically you buy a hook when you want -6.5 and don't wanna push in football. Not hating just curious. By the way i think Oklahoma wins by around 10-12. Losing McBuckets is huge and the Sooners have some really nice scorers from 3, especially Hield who can really push this game outta reach. Not playing it but good luck!

I guess when I feel a play could be close or in other words I did all my homework but still feel this game will bounce around this number then I buy it. Not very often but I did it yesterday on that Utah game and I'm glad I did even though I didn't need it in the end. Just a safety blanket for those games when the hook usually screws me - would rather have the push on a garbage last second three by CU or a missed FT for the Sooners
