nice discussion with a couple of the best cappers on the board here (N Ropp and G Warner) about the UF/Ole Miss game... looking deeper into that one now. Hate laying road chalk, but might not be able to pass on the Gators tonight. Offensive efficiency for this team is just off the charts

New Mexico State -4: I'll be looking for Nevada's first conference loss of the season in this one. NMSU is a very tough match up when playing at home. On the season they're 7-2 on their home floor with the only losses coming to New Mexico and Arizona. Winnable games yes, but also understandable losses. Nevada doesn't have the talent of either of those teams and could be a little over their head here. New Mexico plays at 9th fastest tempo in the country. That out of over 300 teams... 9th. They'll be running you from the time you get off the bus, and for a Nevada team known for playing quite slow it isn't a good match up. Now by now i'm sure thinking "well hell anyone can play fast, doesn't mean you can do it well" and that's true, in this case however NMSU excels at it. Their top 2 players McKines and LaRoche each have offensive ratings over 115. Without going into detail explaining offense ratings, i'll leave it at this... over 115 is very solid and when your two best players are over that number, it makes for a nice offense. This New Mexico State squad will also beat the hell out of you on the offensive glass, one of the offensive rebounding teams in the country. For a team like Nevada this all just doesn't mix well. Facing a team playing at warp speed that crashes the offensive glass like a bunch of piranhas and doing so in their building in what for them is quite possibly the biggest game of the year. Just too much pointing towards NMSU here to pass them up.

Louisiana Tech -2: Some of this write up will overlap what I already touched on in this game in response to a previous question. I'll start of by saying Fresno State is a very poor road team and trip from Fresno, CA, to Ruston, LA isn't exactly an easy one. Two little po dunk towns a few thousand miles apart, have fun with that. Will also point out that Fresno State hasn't won a game all season played with more that 66 possessions, which is to say when the game is played at a fast pace they suck. Well tonight they face a La. Tech team that plays at about 70 possessions per game ranking 54th in the country out of over 300 teams. So, at this point we have a team that's bad on the road and bad at playing fast, going on the road and facing a team who loves to play fast. Keeping track so far? Lastly we have a La. Tech team that should be sky high returning home after 2 road wins that frankly they weren't expected to get. Fresno State on the other hand has won only 2 of 6 with one of those 2 wins coming against a non D-1 school whose basketball program is in it's first year of existence. Already lacking in confidence and seeing the season slip away, and now they travel as far east as they'll go all season to play in the middle of nowhere against a team just waiting to jump all over them. All signs point La Tech here.
