I hate to break it to everyone, but Xavier has no chance to win the national championship.

Now that doesn't mean they can't make the sweet 16, and you can hedge possibly on a yes/no prop for Xavier, but realistically they have no chance.

90/1 isn't anywhere near the true odds.

IMO, Xavier's team this year is more talented and deeper than their 2 teams that went to the Elite 8.   They have a great backcourt and have nice depth at all positions.  Are they as good as UNC, UK, etc...? No, but if they come into the tourney hot and maybe get a few lucky breaks, or 1 or 2 easier-than-they should be games like Butler lucked into and it's possible.  It's by no means probable.  But for sites to have about 18 to 20 teams more likely to win it than them is too many IMO.  They are a solid top 10 to top 15 team.  They'll be battle-tested with a lot of nice non-conf games (Vandy, Purdue, Memphis, etc.).

Why even post this?

Nobody said Xavier is your 2011-2012 National champion, we're betting this for value, with a hedging opportunity.

Their is good value in pittsburgh (+450) Dixon always has his teams over achieving and playing well especially come big east time.

Kentucky -125 is by no means a sleeper, but it's good value for a team that should breeze. They get Florida and Vandy at home/away so if they get 3 of those 4 that is most likely the title right there...Terrence Jones is a monster, much better and disciplined from last year.

Posted it because it is true.

If you actually take the time to look back, not one post on page two says anything about possibly hedging a Xavier wager.  In fact I believe mine was the first to mention it.    Unless there is something on page 1 about it.

Matter of fact a poster even said "Love Xavier at 90-1 to win the National Championship."

But apparently that quoted statement just means it is a value bet and a hedging opportunity.

Matter of fact a poster even said "Love Xavier at 90-1 to win the National Championship."

But apparently that quoted statement just means it is a value bet and a hedging opportunity.

It's stupid to argue this, but I'm bored.  The value/hedging part of the bet is implied, if you didn't catch that, well then there's nothing we can do about that.  When someone makes a wager that has 90/1 or 125/1 or some crazy odds like that, they typically don't believe deep down that it is a winning wager, they believe there will be an opportunity to make money hedging.  Simple as that.  I would imagine their isn't a person on the planet that firmly believes Xavier will win the NCAA tournament, but with the juicy payout that is offered on them, it's worth a shot.

I don't know if my shitty book made an error or something, but the Bengals are offered at 80/1 right now to win the AFC Central, so I bet it.  That doesn't mean I think they will win that division, but I may be able to make some cash hedging that later.

Didn't read through the whole thing, but CAL at +600 is a solid value bet. They have talent, coaching and great experience.

That's a good response.

Not Saying they Don't win the SEC...Just can't root for them and could never back them at -125

not a big futures guy but you can probably get solid odds on Pitt and Louisville(even though Louisville just lost Blackshear for the year) to win the Big East and i would jump on both of those, and if you want a big time sleeper the Hoyas will be back big this year, lots of depth and talent on that team.

Xavier at 125-1 is a great value. Especially for a team that's been a sleeper Final Four pick. POY candidate Tu Holloway and a rotation that will go 9-10 deep.

Sleeper final 4 pick?  By who?  I could find 4 bums outside of Vegas and ask for a final 4 team and call it a sleeper pick.

The odds on Xavier winning the championship at 125/1 are better than Tu winning POY.

I take it you don't follow much college bball?

Here you go bud. This is Jeff Goodman's Xavier preview. I can't find his mock bracket that he filled out, but he stands by Xavier going to the Final Four at the end of this article.

Other teams at 125-1 are Clemson and Miami (Fl.).. Don't you think 125-1 is relatively good odds for a team in the preseason top 15 especially when compared to those 2 ACC juggernauts?

You obviously don't watch a lot of basketball if you think Tu has worse than 125-1 odds to win POY.  Have you ever seen him play?

Nice tits.

Doubleup I love the Vandy future. That should be a serious team this year. Good odds for a top 10 caliber team.

Should I even bring up that they play Xavier

I Hope Vanderbilt can play better on the road this season

Hopefully UK slips and I don't really like the Gators this season

Decent odds on all of them IMNHO

The Bluejays will win the Mo Valley this year. They have added some key freshman the past 2 seasons and have got rid of one of their worst senior classes I have ever seen. I would expect them to make the tournament this year and possibly make a run to the sweet 16.

If you don't think Xavier winning it all at 125/1 is good value then I want some of what you're smoking.  They are absolutely a Final Four contender (if you follow college basketball) and at 125/1 they are about as good a value on National Championship odds you're going to find in college basketball.  They have every single piece in place, if they catch a few breaks like every team needs, to win any game against any team in the dance.  Xavier is going to be a money-maker this year and will get some good values with their schedule.  Anyone who hops on board this year will find themselves richer.  Go ahead and doubt it.
