Week 14 in the CFL wraps up on Saturday night with a clash between the Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton Elks.
These rivals faced off on Monday in a low-scoring contest, but my Stampeders vs. Elks predictions are expecting plenty of points in the rematch. Here are my best free CFL picks for the Battle of Alberta on September 6.
Stampeders vs Elks prediction
My Stampeders vs Elks pick: Over 50.5 (-110 at BET99)
These teams combined for just 35 points in a 28-7 win by the Calgary Stampeders on Labour Day. However, that was with Stamps quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. completing just 13 passes for 162 yards and barely throwing downfield due to game script.
That's extremely out of character for Adams, who is the MOP favourite and leads the CFL in average passing depth (12.5 yards). Expect a more competitive contest this week, which should lead to a more aggressive offensive game plan from Calgary.
Adams should torch an Edmonton Elks defense that ranks last in the league in sacks (10), passing yards per game (312.4), and opponent pass efficiency (120.4).
Edmonton struggled to move the chains on Monday, but expect a more efficient performance from the Elks at home. Their offense has looked much better since Cody Fajardo took over at QB, and they had some bad luck last week by coughing up the ball twice in the red zone.
Another reason to like the Over is the injury news. Calgary will be missing it's best DB in Adrian Greene, while Jaylon Hutchings (the highest graded DT in the league per PFF) is questionable. The Elks are missing both starting defensive ends and their two best linebackers.
Stampeders vs Elks same-game parlay (SGP)

I backed the Elks as 8-point underdogs last week and ended up with egg on my face as the Calgary Stampeders cruised to an easy win.
That said, the Elks actually outgained Stamps 328-287 and picked up four more first downs. They lost the turnover battle 3-0 and surrendered a pair of massive kick returns, which led to the lopsided loss.
Considering that the Elks have turned the ball over a CFL-low 16 times and the Stamps are near the bottom of the league in punt and kick return average, expect regression to the mean in both areas.
I'll push this spread past that key number of 7 and take the Elks again in this SGP.
