Roughriders vs Stampeders picks
Saskatchewan -2.5 (-110)
The Riders are coming off a tight 31-24 win on the road against the Lions and are now firmly in second place in the West with a 5-2 mark. The only team they have lost to are the Grey Cup favorite Blue Bombers and despite dealing with injuries to key players, Saskatchewan has looked strong on both sides of the ball.
After years of being a title contender, the Stamps will need to go on a heater if they want to even make the playoffs this year. They are coming off a bye week and before that lost 23-17 on the road in Hamilton.
Calgary's defense is allowing the second-most passing yards per game (281.1) in the CFL while tying for the fewest interceptions (2) and sacks (12) in the league.
On offense, things haven't been much better with quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell struggling. Whether that has to do with a pair of injuries he's recovering from (offseason shoulder surgery and a fractured fibula in Week 1), or a new and banged-up wide receiver corps, one thing is certain: He doesn't look anything like the passer that twice won the CFL Most Outstanding Player Award.
The Roughriders have a balanced offense featuring QB Cody Fajardo and running back William Powell. And their dominant front seven leads the league with 22 sacks while holding foes to a league-low 66.7 rushing yards on 4.3 yards per carry. With the Riders going 5-1 ATS in their last six games on the road, look for them to win and cover in Calgary.
Over 48 (-110)
Unders cashed at an unsustainable rate during the first few weeks of the CFL season, with offenses looking out of sync following a canceled 2020 and no preseason. However, with offenses beginning to shake off the rust, teams have been scoring at a higher clip lately.
The Riders have hit the Over in back-to-back weeks and are averaging 29.4 points per game against teams not named Winnipeg. Meanwhile, the Stamps have gone 3-2 O/U in their last five games and are surrendering 378.6 yards per game, the second-highest number in the league.
With the Over going 4-1 in the last five games between these clubs, back it again on Saturday night.
