Devin Haney vs George Kambosos Jr. betting preview

Despite Haney’s efforts to call out the rest of the lightweight division, a contractually obligated rematch with Kambosos was always going to be his next fight. Even the decisive nature of his victory in their first fight earlier this year wasn’t enough to persuade Kambosos to walk away, nor does his decision draw any complaints from Haney, who gets another big payday for a presumably easy fight.

Haney dominated Kambosos, working behind his jab and evading Kambosos’ pressure with his movement. “The Dream” outlanded Kambosos 147-100 in overall punches, with the biggest difference being that very same jab where he more than doubled Kambosos’ connects. Despite his clinical performance, Haney never had Kambosos in trouble; perhaps a testament to Haney’s lack of stopping power when facing top-tier opponents.

There wasn’t much to like from Kambosos, but he couldn't do much worse. With a sense of Haney’s timing and lack of power, Kambosos might benefit from the second look and turn in a stronger showing than he did four months ago. Kambosos complained Haney clinched too much and didn’t press the action, which, while true, is indicative of his inability to figure him out.

While Kambosos is as tough as nails, he needs to rely on Haney’s disinterest in the rematch to find opportunities. The hometown crowd will be firmly behind him, but Haney’s elusive style is all wrong for him. A fighter who has to fight the perfect fight to win often doesn’t, and it is yet to be determined if Kambosos has it in him to pull off an unlikely upset.

Devin Haney vs George Kambosos Jr. boxing prediction and best bet

Prediction: Haney moneyline

The thinking here is that he won’t. There are too many stylistic hurdles for Kambosos to clear, and while Haney is by no means an enigma, he is a bad match for the Aussie. While Haney may not have the explosive power or stylistic quirks that will make him fun to watch, he’s disciplined and focused to stick with his game plan, and won’t take any chances if he feels he’s ahead.

All Kambosos can do is more of the same. That alone will give Haney a stationary target that isn’t fast enough to beat him to the punch nor strong enough to bully him across the ring. Haney’s only disadvantage against Kambosos is power, but both fighters have a 50% knockout rate.

Because their first fight was devoid of drama, and the rematch is happening so soon, it’s fair to say we’re about to see more of the same. We’re picking Haney to retain his titles in Australia.

Prediction: Devin Haney moneyline (-1,000 at DraftKings)

Best Bet: Haney win by unanimous decision (-160)

Haney went from a -165 favorite in the first fight to -1000 now, so a moneyline bet is off the table. Another prop that skyrocketed is the one we’re going with, and that’s Haney taking the win on the cards. Could Haney step it up and try to deliver a knockout when considering the difference in class? Maybe, but Haney isn’t that kind of fighter.

Take Haney by unanimous decision here, with the pick fitting in best as a parlay for your weekend play.

Prediction: Devin Haney to win by unanimous decision (-160 at DraftKings)
