Franchon Crews Dezurn vs Savannah Marshall betting preview

Franchon Crews Dezurn is the natural super middleweight and hasn’t officially lost a bout since her pro debut with Shields. Though she did take a loss to Alejandra Jimenez, a failed post-fight drug test nullified the loss. Her last fight was a decision win over Elin Cederroos in April 2022. Her last three fights have come after a year or more of inactivity.

There is nothing conventional about Dezurn. From an outsider's view, she’s sloppy, throws looping punches, and doesn’t possess the power that makes up for her style. However, she puts it all together with incredible conditioning, a solid chin, and relentless pressure.

The odds are long on her because of this lack of refinement. That said, this unorthodox style and her size advantage could give Marshall enough pause that she won’t know when to attack or defend. Stunting Marshall, who sometimes waits too long to get off her punches, will be paramount to her retaining her title against the best opponent she’s faced since Shields.

Savannah Marshall is hoping to regain her championship form, and her confidence, just 10 months after suffering her first career loss to bitter rival Claressa Shields. Though Marshall had her moments, the speed and technique of Shields kept her off-balance and unable to mount any effective offense. There is no shame in losing to Shields — Dezurn also knows the feeling — and Marshall is still considered one of the best female boxers in the world.

She is moving up a weight class to challenge for the super middleweight title. A few things Marshall has going for her is that she is three and a half inches taller than Dezurn and has heavier hands with 10 knockouts in 12 wins. When Marshall can get set and fire, she can land some devastating punches, and her opponent won’t be as nimble as Shields.

Though she is moving up in weight, Marshall needs to remain aggressive. Dezurn is not likely to trade punches with her, but she’ll try to emulate Shields’ strategy by staying on the move and making her miss. However, Dezurn tends to get dragged into brawls and isn’t as defensively mindful nor offensively gifted to fight that way. An overturned loss to Jimenez and two close fights with Maricela Cornejo shows that she can get lazy in the pocket and is hittable.

Franchon Crews Dezurn vs Savannah Marshall boxing prediction and best bet

Prediction: Marshall

I can understand the big odds favoring Marshall, but this is a tough fight and pick to call.

Questions linger about Marshall’s confidence and if her power will be as effective at super middleweight. While Dezurn can make it easy for her, being hittable and crude, Marshall cannot go into this fight with half a tank of gas and expect to win.

A hometown crowd will cheer her on, so I cautiously lean towards her becoming a two-division champion to set up the Shields rematch in 2024.

Prediction: Marshall Moneyline (-425 at DraftKings)

Best Bet: Fight will go the distance

As good of a puncher as Marshall is, Dezurn will do what she can to smother her shots and avoid her power. Marshall’s height and punching power should wear Dezurn down if she targets her body, but Dezurn’s strange style makes her a hard target.

It may not be all that profitable, but I feel the best bet is that the fight goes the full distance.

Prediction: Fight will go the distance (-575 at DraftKings)
