Kentucky sports betting history and handle
Kentucky has a storied history of gambling, as wagers have flowed into the Kentucky Derby horse racing scene for over 100 years and, more recently, fantasy sports. After receiving several layers of approval, the bill was passed by the Kentucky Senate and signed by Governor Andy Beshear. Kentucky will launch legal sports betting in September 2023, first with retail betting on Sept. 23, 2023, followed by online sports betting on Sept. 28. 2023.
Horse racing already pulls in hundreds of millions in revenue for Kentucky, further bolstered by the recent launches of DK Horse and Caesars Racebook. I believe the legalization of sports betting will push yearly handle past one billion in short order.
