Soooo Scotiabank has blocked a bunch of my wire withdrawal transfers ... turns out they're enforcing a new policy. The banking officer I spoke to said to me it was "immoral and illegal", I rebutted "There is no law in Canada that states internet gambling is illegal, so could you please give me information on what laws you're referring to".

I did some digging and found their new policy below ... Are they friggin retarded?! HOW THE darn DOES A CANADIAN BANK ENFORCE AN AMERICAN LAW IN CANADA?! I've switched banks now ... seems like Scotiabank just wants to control their customers.

Effective June 1st, 2010, Scotiabank will be required to comply with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA) and Regulation GG, which was issued by the U.S. Department of Treasury and the Federal Reserve Board. This regulation is intended to restrict unlawful wagering via internet gambling sites by blocking restricted transactions. Restricted transactions generally include, but are not limited to, those in which credit or debit cards, electronic funds transfers, checks, or drafts are used in connection with unlawful internet gambling.

In order to comply with these new requirements, Scotiabank has implemented Visa’s Internet Gambling blocking service, which will result in the decline of all online “card-not-present” gambling credit card transactions.

Cardholders will receive an email or paper notification advising them of the new U.S. regulation with their statement over the next three payment cycles. A copy of this notification has been provided to you by email for your reference.

Review the Regulation GG brochure for additional information.

I had my scotia account closed by the manager of my bank which I had it for 3 years. The manager ask me where I was sending my money too? And why I was receiving 1500.00 to my account every other week? I told I was receiving the money through my friend but she didnt believed me so they got pissed and shut my account. Scotia bank also has western union built in there online accounts.
