Looking to stay ahead of the Las Vegas Aces for the No. 2 seed, the Atlanta Dream host the Connecticut Sun in Monday’s standalone game, searching for a win during the final week of the regular season.
My Sun vs. Dream predictions see another strong offensive performance from Rhyne Howard and solid showings from Marina Mabrey and Tina Charles.
Here are my WNBA picks for September 8.
Sun vs Dream predictions
My Sun vs Dream best bet: Rhyne Howard Over 19.5 points (-110 via bet365)
Rhyne Howard is second on the Atlanta Dream in scoring at 17.5 points per game behind only Allisha Gray (18.6). Gray has missed Atlanta’s last two games due to a left knee injury and remains questionable tonight.
Howard has posted at least 20 points in 11 of 31 games, but three of those have come across her last five outings. In that five-game span, Howard has averaged a whopping 24.4 points, scoring at least 19 points in each matchup, while shooting 47.3% from the field and 42.1% from three.
Howard detonated for 37 points on Friday against the Sparks, and she’ll look to keep the momentum going against a vulnerable Connecticut Sun defense.
Despite winning five of their last nine games, the Sun have still struggled to contain opposing offenses. Connecticut has allowed opponents to shoot 46.2% from the field and 37.1% from beyond the arc, while surrendering 82.7 points per game.
Hot off her best game of the season, facing one of the worst defenses in the W and potentially operating as her team’s go-to option on offense, I expect Howard to have a productive night.
Sun vs Dream same-game parlay (SGP)
Marina Mabrey has scored at least 14 points in 17 of 33 games this season, and she finished with 34, 12, and 12 in three matchups with the Dream. She’s scored at least 14 points in five of her last seven games. and should have no problem eclipsing her points line tonight.
Tina Charles has been more productive as a rebounder at home than on the road, but 5.5 boards is too low to pass up. Charles has pulled down six or more rebounds in 23 of 41 games, including seven of her last 10.
She’s averaged 6.3 rebounds in three matchups with her former team, hitting the Over on this line twice.
