The Chicago Sky visit Moda Center for their season opener with the expansion Portland Fire.

Kamilla Cardoso is now the main focus of the Sky offense, and my Sky vs. Fire predictions expect Cardoso to dominate the Fire tonight.

Read on for my WNBA picks for Saturday, May 9.

Sky vs Fire prediction

Sky vs Fire best bet: Kamilla Cardoso Over 13.5 points (-112)

Saturday's Chicago Sky against the Portland Fire matchup is the first regular-season meeting in history for both franchises. Still, one thing is already settled: Kamilla Cardoso is probably the best player on the floor.

The 6-foot-7 center averaged 16.6 ppg in 2025, sharing the spotlight with Angel Reese. Reese is no longer in her way, and I expect her to cook tonight.

With Skylar Diggins running the offense and feeding Cardoso in the pick-and-roll, Chicago's offense runs through its dominant center, and Portland likely won’t have an answer for the former South Carolina product.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Kamilla Cardoso averaged 13.6 ppg in 2025 and scored at least 14 points in 19 of her 40 games for the Sky.

Sky vs Fire same-game parlay

Portland's Bridget Carleton is probably their most reliable perimeter threat. She made 40% of her nearly four long-range attempts in 2025, and is a career 39% shooter from deep.

The Sky have too many solid veterans, and they at least have some roster continuity. Diggins is tough, and Rickea Jackson is expected to have a breakthrough season.

Portland doesn’t have any of those key pieces, and they’ll have difficulties slowing the Sky tonight.

Sky vs Fire SGP

  • Kamilla Cardoso Over 13.5 points
  • Bridgett Carlton Over 1.5 made threes
  • Sky moneyline

Sky vs Fire first basket scorer: Kamilla Cardoso (+350)

Cardoso should win the opening tip on Saturday, giving Chicago the first possession on opening night.

The Sky's offensive identity runs through Cardoso in the pick-and-roll with Diggins, making her the likely first option on the game's opening sequence.

At +350, backing the most dominant player on the floor to score first is outstanding value.

Sky vs Fire odds
