Expert WNBA moneyline picks for August 27
Valkyries vs Liberty pick: Liberty
The Golden State Valkyries have beaten the New York Liberty twice this season, so I’m not pretending this is some easy spot.
But this is also the healthiest version of the Liberty the Valkyries have seen, and New York owns the better recent offense with a 109.9 offensive rating over its last five games compared with Golden State’s 102.1.
The Valkyries rested their starters heavily Wednesday, so I’m not leaning on fatigue. I’m leaning on New York being home, healthier, and with more ways to score, and on improving their home record to 14-5 at Barclays Center.
Give me the Liberty up to 66%.
Mystics vs Mercury pick: Mystics
The Washington Mystics already went into Phoenix and beat the Phoenix Mercury Tuesday night, and I see no reason to jump off the Mystics now.
Washington is 4-1 over its last five with a 115.2 offensive rating and +6.6 net rating, while Phoenix is 1-4 with a 103.9 offensive rating and -9.6 net rating.
The Mystics are also doing real damage inside, averaging 46.4 paint points and 15.6 second-chance points per game.
With DeWanna Bonner off to the Atlanta Dream and Kelsey Plum on a minutes restriction or possibly out, I’ll ride with the Mystics again tonight.
