Expert WNBA moneyline picks for August 30
Lynx vs Dream pick: Lynx
The Minnesota Lynx are 8-2 over their last 10 and had won six straight before Golden State walked into Minneapolis and handed the Lynx an embarrassing 80-66 loss.
I’m expecting an angry response today.
Minnesota still owns a 104.2 defensive rating and +4.5 net rating over its last five despite that setback. The Atlanta Dream have won four of five, but they just got smoked 101-83 at home by Portland.
With the season series still up for grabs, I trust Minnesota’s defense, experience, and urgency far more than I do the Dream.
At 57%, the Lynx are my side up to 65%.
Sparks vs Storm pick: Storm
Neither offense has impressed lately, but the Seattle Storm have been far more trustworthy defensively.
The Storm own a 99.5 defensive rating and -0.9 net rating over their last five, while the Los Angeles Sparks sit at 106.6 defensively with a -8.3 net rating.
Seattle’s offense has struggled, but L.A. has been no better — posting a 98.3 offensive rating compared with Seattle’s 98.6.
In what I project as an ugly, possession-by-possession game, I’ll take the team that defends at a higher level. At 41%, Seattle offers enough value for me to back the Storm outright.

Valkyries vs Fire pick: Valkyries
The Golden State Valkyries are thin, with Gabby Williams, Janelle Salaün, and Cecilia Zandalasini unavailable, but I’m still backing the Valkyries.
They are 13-6 on the road, and their bench has posted a +7.2 net rating and a 1.91 assist-to-turnover ratio over the last five games.
The deal breaker is the Portland Fire being without Carla Leite, their leading scorer and primary playmaker. Golden State still has Veronica Burton, who still defends like crazy, and will compete every possession.
They’re thin, but Portland’s biggest absence matters more. I trust Golden State to find a way up to 70% tonight.
Sun vs Wings pick: Wings
The Dallas Wings have won three of their last five while posting a 111.8 offensive rating, 105.4 defensive rating, and +6.4 net rating.
Meanwhile, the Connecticut Sun are moving in the opposite direction, losing four of five with an ugly 94.2 offensive rating and -16.2 net rating.
The Sun simply haven’t generated enough offense to make me believe they can keep pace with Dallas for four quarters. There’s no reason to lay an 87% price on its own, but that doesn’t change the winner.
Use Dallas as the anchor in a combo and make the other leg do the heavy lifting, up to 80% tonight.
