The Chicago Sky are one of the league's worst teams, and the Mercury will have no trouble picking them apart.

The Phoenix Mercury will look to build on their four-game winning streak when they visit the Chicago Sky this afternoon.

Chicago has had trouble staying close with the better teams in the W, so I’ll be taking Phoenix to cover in my Mercury vs. Sky predictions.

Read on for a full breakdown of today’s early matchup in my free WNBA picks for Saturday, June 21.

Mercury vs Sky predictions

My Mercury vs Sky best bet: Mercury -10.5 (-105 at bet365)

The Chicago Sky continue to struggle, having made little progress since 2024 when they finished at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. The Sky have lost four in a row and seven of their last nine games overall, with their issues primarily on the offensive end.

There are a couple of clear issues to point out for Chicago. It lacks a true leading scorer: While four players are in double figures for the Sky, none are averaging more than Ariel Atkins at 12.6 ppg.

They're near the bottom of the league in shooting percentage at 41.2%, and rank 12th in scoring (75.3 ppg). That lack of efficiency is unfortunately paired with fewer effective possessions than most teams, as Chicago averages 18.7 turnovers per game — worst in the WNBA — and more than two turnovers worse than the next closest squad.

That could be an especially damaging problem against the Phoenix Mercury, who force more turnovers (17.9 per game) than any team in the league.

They also allow just 77.6 ppg, and are third in the WNBA in defensive rating (96.9). It’s rare to find a matchup where one team’s weaknesses play right into the strengths of their opponent any better than in this contest.

Phoenix is also playing well lately. Not only are the Mercury riding a four-game winning streak, but they're fresh off of an 89-81 road win over the New York Liberty, handing the defending champions only their second loss of the season.

The Mercury sprang that upset despite heading into New York as 11.5-point underdogs. Meanwhile, the Sky haven’t been able to perform nearly as well when getting that many points, going 0-3 against the spread when getting 10+ points this season.

Mercury vs Sky same-game parlay (SGP)

Mercury -10.5

Under 159.5

Satou Sabally Over 26.5 points+rebounds

Yes, the first game between these two ended up being a high-scoring affair (183 points), but that was unusual. Both teams are middle of the pack in pace metrics, and each ranks in the bottom half of the league in offensive rating. The Sky have hit the Under in five straight games, and I’m backing that trend to continue.

I’ll also take Mercury forward Satou Sabally to hit her Over on her combined points and rebounds combo. Sabally is averaging 19.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.

In her last outing against the Liberty, she went for 20 points and eight rebounds despite shooting just 7-for-21. I’m expecting similar numbers, but with better shooting tonight.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
