It’s the defending champs visiting the current league chumps when the New York Liberty take on the Connecticut Sun in the first of a two-game set at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Our Liberty vs. Sun predictions and WNBA picks have a shorthanded New York still handling their business on Friday, August 1.

Liberty vs Sun predictions

My Liberty vs Sun best bet: Liberty -11 (-112 at FanDuel)

If there was ever a game to get right, this would be it for the New York Liberty.

The Liberty are riding a season-worst three-game losing streak after a 100-93 loss to the league-leading Minnesota Lynx last time out. They will again be without star forward Breanna Stewart, who’s sidelined indefinitely with a knee injury.

But New York is far from a one-woman band, as they lead the W in scoring at 87.9 points per game, and are the only team in the league hitting 10 3-pointers per game.

The Connecticut Sun own the worst record in the association at 4-21 and allow the most points per game at 88 per contest, while letting teams shoot 34.9% from beyond the arc (11th). Connecticut has dropped five of six, with all but one of those losses coming by at least 14 points.

New York has taken seven of eight in this head-to-head, most recently a 100-52 demolition back on June 1. It’s a different calendar month flip, but the same beating is in store for Connecticut.

Liberty vs Sun same-game parlay (SGP)

Liberty -11

Sabrina Ionescu Over 20.5 points

Jonquel Jones Over 10.5 rebounds

With Stewart out, Sabrina Ionescu slots into the top offensive threat for the Liberty.

She has led the team in scoring in three of the last four, including going for 31 against Minnesota. We’ll risk the potential early sit down due to a blowout.

We’ll wrap with Jonquel Jones, who has failed to crack double-digits in rebounds in five of the last six games. But last time out against the Sun, Jones pulled down 11 boards. She should be topping this total on Friday.
