Anyone who thought the Indiana Fever would be content with just a playoff-round win without Caitlin Clark had that notion shattered in emphatic fashion on Sunday — a result that cranks up the pressure on the Las Vegas Aces ahead of tonight’s Game 2.

While it’s easy to overreact to Indiana’s poised 89-73 win in Game 1, my Fever vs. Aces predictions back the visitors to stand firm defensively once again and drag Las Vegas into a grind-it-out battle at Michelob ULTRA Arena.

Check out my WNBA picks for this September 23 showdown, with all eyes on how A’ja Wilson and Co. respond.

Fever vs Aces predictions

My Fever vs Aces best bet: Under 164 (-110 at FanDuel)

After so much smooth sailing for the Las Vegas Aces over the last two months, the waters are suddenly a little choppier. While a best-of-five series allows more margin for error, there’s no mistaking the urgency ahead of tonight’s Game 2 against the Indiana Fever.

It starts on the defensive end, where the Aces gave up 89 points to the depleted Fever on Sunday, and you can be sure that Becky Hammon will have used the Game 1 setback to give her squad a wake-up call.

With Las Vegas raising its intensity, I love the Under tonight. Look for the Aces to have some new wrinkles to slow down Kelsey Mitchell, who shoulders so much of the scoring burden for the visitors, and bring more force on the glass.

But don’t count on the hosts lighting it up either. The Fever made life difficult for freshly-minted MVP A’ja Wilson in Game 1, holding her to a 6-for-22 afternoon, and Las Vegas shot just 41% overall. The hosts fell short of the 20-point mark in all four quarters.

The trends tell a similar story. The Under is 8-2 in Indiana’s last 10 contests, and it’s also 8-2 in the past 10 meetings between these teams.

Missing so many key contributors, the Fever have no choice but to lean into their defense, and they’ll gladly settle for a tight, scrappy battle here.

Fever vs Aces same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 164

Odyssey Sims Over 14.5 points + assists

A’ja Wilson Over 10.5 rebounds

Kelsey Mitchell’s 34-point explosion grabbed the Game 1 spotlight, but Odyssey Sims was a huge factor, too.

Sims scored 17 points in 32 minutes on Sunday, while adding three assists, and there’s a clear path to this combo Over in Game 2. She’s gone past this number in points alone in three of her last five outings.

A Wilson prop is also a no-brainer tonight, with the expectation that the MVP will set the tone early.

She finished with 13 rebounds in Game 1 and she’s hit the Over on 10.5 boards in four of the past five contests where’s logged more than 30 minutes.
