Wednesday’s WNBA slate features just one game, and though it’s the penultimate night of the season, it’s the final game for the Atlanta Dream and Connecticut Sun.
My WNBA picks and Dream vs. Sun predictions expect Atlanta to win a closely contested contest while rookie Saniya Rivers keeps the visitors on their toes.
Dream vs Sun predictions
My Dream vs Sun best bet: Saniya Rivers Over 11.5 points (+100 at bet365)
The rookie out of NC State has enjoyed a productive inaugural campaign, averaging 8.7 points across 41 appearances. Saniya Rivers has scored at least 12 points only nine times this season, but she’s found renewed success as a scorer as of late.
Across her last 10 games, Rivers has averaged 10.5 points, scoring at least 10 points six times and scoring at least 12 points four times. That includes two of her last three games with at least 16 points.
Rivers hasn’t seen an uptick in playing time over her last 10, but her increased scoring is a result of additional shot opportunities. Over the first 31 games of the season, Rivers attempted 7.6 field goals and 2.6 triples, but over her last 10, she attempted 9.7 field goals and 4.1 triples.
Rivers’ 16-point outing in her last game came as a starter filling in for the absent Leila Lacan. Lacan is out again tonight, opening the door for Rivers to close out her rookie season in style with another strong scoring performance.
Getting this line at even money is a nice value.
Dream vs Sun same-game parlay (SGP)
The Connecticut Sun are just 1-4 ATS across their last five games after snapping a five-game streak of covering the spread. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Dream have covered in five straight and in eight of the last 10.
Despite the dichotomous directions taken by each of these teams in recent games, the Sun are a healthy 23-20 ATS this season, and they’re being spotted far too many points at home.
I expect the Dream to win and clinch the No. 2 seed, but Connecticut will make it difficult and keep things close in front of the home crowd in its final game.
The Dream are 19-22-2 to the Under, and the Sun are 20-21-2 to the Under this season. Over the last 10 games, Atlanta has hit the Over only three times, and Connecticut has hit it only four times.
In four head-to-head matchups, the Dream and Sun are 1-2-1 to the Under. I expect a low-scoring game in tonight’s finale.
