The offensive wrestler Petrino takes a step towards contention in this gut-check fight with Pedro, who should serve as a stern test for the undefeated grappler. UFC odds have Petrino a -310 favorite while Pedro is a live +230 underdog.

Petrino vs Pedro picks

Fight prediction: Vitor Petrino ML

The hulking Vitor Petrino could potentially grow into a player at light heavyweight, but he’ll be tested against a dangerous opponent who could derail him if he isn’t up for the task. When we see Petrino, there’s good striking, solid grappling, and plenty of aggression. There’s also a suspect chin and questionable defense.

Skillwise, Petrino is the more well-rounded fighter with an efficient striking style and conditioning. Tyson Pedro has the reputation of being a volatile front-runner, and while he can do crippling damage early on, his gas tank is practically shot after the end of the first round.

We’ve seen Petrino get buzzed and hurt early in fights, and Pedro hits hard enough to threaten an early stoppage potentially.

However, Pedro’s tendency to get taken down and his struggles generating takedowns of his own tilts things towards Petrino. We’ve seen Pedro up his striking game lately, and he's a solid finisher, but Petrino’s faster hands and better ground game means he’ll have more tools at his disposal.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Pedro blasts Petrino with something huge early on, though I feel Petrino could land with just as much authority in return. If Petrino can get out of the first round unscathed and feeling fresh, he’ll win.

Prediction: Vitor Petrino moneyline (-310 at Bet99)

Fight best bet: Vitor Petrino to win in Round 2

While Pedro’s wild strikes could catch Petrino’s shaky chin, Petrino’s toughness and superior skill set should allow him to survive any early scuffles. He’s the faster striker and just as strong, not to mention a better wrestler who can exploit Pedro’s takedown defense.

We’ve seen Pedro look winded after getting out of the first round. His fights don’t go there often, but he’ll have a motivated opponent in front of him able to smother his strikes and is agile enough to close the distance on him.

Petrino can resort to his superior striking while mixing up his wrestling to tag and drain Pedro. The big shot will never come, and he’ll start getting hit frequently and left vulnerable for Petrino to force him down to the mat.

Expect Petrino to overwhelm Pedro up top, but the finish will come via ground and pound in the second round.

Pick: Vitor Petrino to win in Round 2 (+335 at Bet99)

Petrino vs Pedro betting preview

Petrino looked rock solid in a second-round stoppage of Modestas Bukauskas last November. The light heavyweight standout has won all four of his UFC fights, earning Performance of the Night honors against Bukauskas and Fight of the Night honors against Turkalj last March. He's undefeated since turning pro in 2019.

Pedro knocked Turkalj out and ended his UFC tenure with a first-round KO at UFC 293. Though he’s been exposed against established contenders at light heavyweight, he possesses legitimate stopping power and can defend himself on the ground with his BJJ background.

This fight is going to start with someone getting their chin checked. With Petrino’s speed and wrestling, he must close the gap and force Pedro to the ground before he catches heat. Should Pedro manage to keep the fight standing, this could devolve into a war of attrition that could be over with each passing exchange.
