San Jose Sharks vs Nashville Predators Box Score on Oct 08, 2019

Nashville captain Roman Josi scored a pair of goals to carry the host Predators to a 5-2 victory over the winless San Jose Sharks on Thursday night.

Kyle Turris, Filip Forsberg and Dante Fabbro contributed goals, and Matt Duchene recorded his sixth assist, tying him with Edmonton's Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl for the NHL lead.

Pekka Rinne stopped 33 of 35 shots to improve to 2-0-0.

Brent Burns had a goal and an assist, and Evander Kane netted a goal in his return after a three-game suspension for San Jose, which has scored only five goals in four games.

Lean Bergmann's assist on Burns' goal was his first NHL point.

Martin Jones made 20 saves for the Sharks, who at 0-4-0 have matched the worst four-game start in franchise history. The 1993-94 team started 0-4-0, tied the next game, then fell to 0-8-1 before earning its first win.

Colton Sissons took a pass on the right wing from Josi, starting a give-and-go and feeding the puck back to Josi, who then rifled his first goal over Jones' right shoulder at 6:16 of the first period.

Forsberg rang a shot off the post with the man advantage in the second period, and San Jose defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic cleared the puck out to Josi, who buried his second goal unassisted at 10:25 for a 2-0 lead.

Kane scored six seconds into San Jose's second power play by deflecting in a long shot from Logan Couture at 15:12 to make it 2-1.

The Sharks' first power-power goal came on their 16th advantage this season. They also gave up three short-handed tallies in the first 14 power plays over the opening three games.

Turris pushed Nashville's lead to 3-1 after Rocco Grimaldi banked a pass to him off the boards in the neutral zone. Turris skated in through the left circle and zipped in his first goal at 2:51.

Forsberg, Burns and Fabbro (empty-netter) added goals for the final margin as San Jose fell again.

However, the night in the Music City wasn't a total loss for the Pacific Division team.

San Jose general manager Doug Wilson announced before the game that the club would sign longtime franchise mainstay Patrick Marleau to a one-year deal for the league minimum.

Marleau, a 40-year-old forward, played 19 seasons with San Jose before being signed as a free agent by Toronto after the 2016-17 campaign.

The Sharks icon, who has been skating on his own, will join the team in Chicago to cap its three-game road trip on Thursday.
