Last Meeting ( Oct 25, 2014 ) Texas Tech 27, Texas Christian 82

Second-ranked TCU rolled up a school-record 82 points while trouncing Texas Tech last season and the host Red Raiders look for revenge when the two programs open Big 12 play on Saturday. The Horned Frogs are certainly potent on offense again this season and have averaged 63 points over their past two games while Texas Tech is averaging 54.3 points through three games and seeking its fourth 4-0 start in a five-season span.

The Horned Frogs have won 11 consecutive games, the nation's second-longest winning streak behind defending national champion Ohio State (16). Senior quarterback Trevone Boykin is coming off a 454-yard, five-touchdown performance against SMU and he passed for 433 yards and a school-record seven touchdowns in last season's 82-27 rout of the Red Raiders. Texas Tech can pronounce itself as a factor in the Big 12 this season with an upset of the Horned Frogs, who have lost several key defensive players to injuries, leave of absence or arrest. "Once you get to conference play, the ante goes up and you have to work that much harder and prepare that much better," Red Raiders coach Kliff Kingsbury said in a press conference.

TV: 4:45 p.m. ET, FOX. LINE: TCU - 7.5.

ABOUT TCU (3-0, 0-0 Big 12): Boykin is a Heisman Trophy candidate and hasn't hurt his chances by throwing for 985 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions in three games. Senior receiver Josh Doctson had five receptions for 171 yards and two touchdowns against SMU and leads the team with 17 receptions for 326 yards, while senior running back Aaron Green has rushed for 272 yards and four touchdowns. The defense will likely be without run-stuffing senior defensive tackle Davion Pierson (concussion) for the third straight game and lost standout sophomore cornerback Ranthony Texada (knee) for the season in the SMU contest.

ABOUT TEXAS TECH (3-0, 0-0): Sophomore quarterback Patrick Mahomes II is playing well and has passed for 1,029 yards and nine touchdowns while being intercepted three times. Senior running back DeAndre Washington (287 yards) is averaging an impressive eight yards per carry while senior receiver Jakeem Grant has a team-best 21 catches for 287 yards. Redshirt freshman strong safety Jah'Shawn Johnson had 16 tackles in last Saturday's win over Arkansas and is tied with redshirt freshman outside linebacker Dakota Allen for the team lead with 25 tackles.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Texas Tech leads the series 30-24-3 and has won 12 of the past 16 meetings.

2. TCU senior DE Mike Tuaua and redshirt freshman WR Andre Petties-Wilson have been suspended indefinitely after being arrested on felony assault and robbery charges.

3. The Red Raiders have forced eight turnovers - including recovering five of the opponents' six fumbles.

PREDICTION: TCU 66, Texas Tech 48
