In June, Ohtani didn’t pitch more than two innings in a single outing. In July, Los Angeles ramped that up to three innings each start. Now that August has rolled around, the ball club is likely going to increase his workload a bit before the playoffs, which is why I’m liking the Over tonight in Ks. Ohtani has eight punchouts in seven innings at home so far in 2025.

The St. Louis starter is pushing his innings total as he sits at 109 innings after pitching a career high 86 last year. The extra work might be slowing him down as he has just four punchouts over his last three starts that have totaled 11+ innings. In his last three starts, he has thrown 85, 77, and 73 pitches, so the leash is getting low and he has a tough matchup vs. the Dodgers today in what is one of the few good hitting parks today. He’s a low-K% pitcher paying plus money in a tough setting where he might not throw 80 pitches. THE BAT is projecting 83 pitches and 3.56 strikeouts.
