Tampa Bay @ Los Angeles preview

Angel Stadium

Last Meeting ( Aug 18, 2012 ) Tampa Bay 10, LA Angels 8

The Los Angeles Angels can't seem to beat the Tampa Bay Rays, even with an eight-run lead. The Rays will try for a four-game sweep and continue their dominance over the Angels on Sunday in Anaheim. The Rays have won 11 of the last 12 meetings - and 12 of the last 14 at Angel Stadium - following their 10-8 victory Saturday in which they trailed 8-0 after four innings. It was the largest comeback in Rays history, according to Elias Sports Bureau. The Rays, who have won 15 of their last 20 games, are first in the American League wild card race while the Angels, who are 6-12 in August, have fallen 3 1/2 games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the second wild card spot.

Zack Greinke, who lost to Tampa Bay 2-0 in his first start with the Angels, won his first game in four starts with Los Angeles in his last outing and will be asked to be a stopper again. He will oppose red-hot Tampa Bay rookie Matt Moore, who is 3-0 with a 0.73 ERA in his last four starts and hasn't allowed a home run in 53 2/3 innings covering his last eight outings. The Rays are 10-2 since Evan Longoria returned after missing 85 games with a hamstring injury. His two-run homer capped Tampa Bay's seven-run fifth inning Saturday.

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Rays LH Matt Moore (9-6, 3.70 ERA) vs. Angels RH Zack Greinke (1-1, 5.54)

Moore allowed one run, six hits and struck out nine in seven innings but did not receive a decision in Tampa Bay's 3-2 loss at Seattle on Tuesday. He began a three-start winning streak with a 3-0 victory against the Angels on July 28 when he allowed four hits and struck out six in 6 1/3 innings. Moore has allowed two or less runs in his last six starts and lowered his ERA by .82 runs during that span. The Angels' roster is hitting .205 in 44 at-bats against him, with Mark Trumbo 3-for-6 with a homer, double and two RBIs.

Greinke wasn't particularly sharp in his last outing but earned a 9-6 victory over Cleveland on Tuesday after allowing four runs, eight hits and striking out five in six innings. Greinke, who was 9-3 with a 3.44 ERA with the Milwaukee Brewers before he was traded to the Angels, allowed two runs, seven hits and struck out eight in seven innings against the Rays on July 29 to fall to 2-5 lifetime against them. Tampa Bay's roster is hitting .186 against him, with Matt Joyce (5-for-13, homer, two RBIs) having the most success.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Rays have won five straight against the Angels and outscored them 34-11 during that span.

2. The top five in Los Angeles' order - Mike Trout, Torii Hunter, Albert Pujols, Kendrys Morales and Mark Trumbo - were a combined 12-for-23 with eight RBIs and six runs scored Saturday.

3. Longoria is hitting .244 with two homers and nine RBIs with 15 strikeouts in 41 at-bats in 11 games since returning to the lineup.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
