Seattle @ Los Angeles preview

Angel Stadium

Last Meeting ( Aug 11, 2012 ) Seattle 7, LA Angels 4

Jered Weaver seeks his 11th consecutive victory when the Los Angeles Angels finish a three-game series against the visiting Seattle Mariners. Weaver’s only loss of the season was back on May 13 to the Texas Rangers and he has been spectacular since and shares the major-league victory lead with R.A. Dickey of the New York Mets and David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays. Seattle is 2-6 on a nine-game road trip that concludes Sunday.

Seattle’s John Jaso has two homers and five RBIs in the series as he continues to hit well against Los Angeles pitching. Jaso has a .368 career mark against the Angels but is hitless in six career at-bats against Weaver. Los Angeles outfielder Vernon Wells homered and drove in three runs in Saturday’s 7-4 loss. Wells had been hitless in 16 bats since returning from a two-month stint on the disabled list because of a thumb surgery before going 3-for-3 against Hisashi Iwakuma.

TV: 3:35 p.m. ET, Root Sports (Seattle), FS West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners LH Jason Vargas (12-8, 3.69 ERA) vs. Angels RH Jered Weaver (15-1, 2.13)

Vargas had a five-game winning streak snapped by losing to the Baltimore Orioles in his last outing. He gave up three runs and eight hits in eight innings. Vargas has allowed 26 homers but has given up only one over his last four outings. He is 1-1 with a 4.97 ERA this season and against the Angels and has a 4-4 mark and 2.82 ERA in 12 career appearances (11 starts).

Weaver was dominating in his last start when he threw a four-hit shutout against the Oakland Athletics. He has allowed more than two earned runs only four times this season with two of those occasions coming in April. Weaver hasn’t faced Seattle this season but has a 12-4 record and 3.08 ERA in 22 career starts against Seattle.

WALK-OFFS

1. Angels slugger Mark Trumbo has fanned eight times in 15 at-bats against Vargas without hitting a homer. He wasn’t in the lineup Saturday because of a 6-for-43 slump over his previous 11 games.

2. Mariners OF Michael Saunders, who was hitless in five at-bats on Saturday, is 4-for-11 with five strikeouts against Weaver.

3. Los Angeles 1B Albert Pujols is hitless in eight at-bats in the series and is 2-for-23 over his last six contests.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
