Colorado @ Los Angeles preview

Dodger Stadium

Last Meeting ( Aug 6, 2012 ) Colorado 2, LA Dodgers 0

The Rockies haven’t won a series at Dodger Stadium since September 2010, but they can end that streak with a win Tuesday. Colorado, which won for only the fifth time in 21 games on Monday, will be without veteran first baseman Todd Helton for the rest of the season after he was placed on the disabled list with a torn labrum in his right hip. Matt McBride, Tyler Colvin, Jordan Pacheco and Michael Cuddyer will all be used in place of Helton, who will undergo season-ending surgery on Friday.

The Dodgers seemed to be on the verge of a long winning streak after sweeping the lowly Chicago Cubs over the weekend, but their offense came up empty in the series opener against Colorado. Matt Kemp, Hanley Ramirez and Juan Rivera combined to go 2-for-12 with four strikeouts, although Kemp singled to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Before Monday’s game, the Dodgers designated outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. for assignment and recalled Jerry Sands, who could see time in the outfield and first base. Sands had four hits in 20 at-bats with the Dodgers earlier this season, but he earned another look after tearing up Triple-A pitching.

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Rockies RH Alex White (2-6, 6.16 ERA) vs. Dodgers RH Aaron Harang (7-6, 3.76)

White allowed two runs over 5 1/3 innings last Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals in his first start since being recalled from Triple-A. Left-handed hitters are batting .315 against White, who is known as a ground-ball pitcher. He’s 1-1 with a 6.55 ERA in two starts against the Dodgers this season.

Harang was originally scheduled to pitch on Sunday, but his start was pushed back after the Dodgers acquired Joe Blanton from Philadelphia. Harang, who will be pitching on seven days' rest, is 6-5 with a 4.50 ERA in 13 career starts against the Rockies. Carlos Gonzalez is hitting .400 in 15 at-bats against Harang.

WALK-OFFS

1. Dodgers C A.J. Ellis walked for the 50th time this season on Monday, becoming the eighth catcher in franchise history with 50 walks in one season.

2. Colorado is 4-9 at Dodger Stadium over the past two seasons and 60-94 all-time.

3. The Dodgers are 46-9 when scoring four or more runs.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
