Miami @ Atlanta preview

Turner Field

Last Meeting ( Jul 25, 2012 ) Atlanta 7, Miami 1

Atlanta has provided Tommy Hanson with generous offensive support recently, and the Braves will look to continue their winning ways when Miami visits Turner Field for a four-game series. Atlanta has scored six or more runs in six of Hanson’s past seven starts. The Marlins have won two in a row, but placed outfielder Logan Morrison to the disabled list with a right knee injury Sunday and continue to play without slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

Miami had lost eight of nine before taking the final two from San Diego this weekend at home. The Braves ride a five-game winning streak into the series opener and are 13 games above .500, trailing first-place Washington by four games in the NL East. Atlanta has beaten Miami six of eight times this season, outscoring the Marlins 44-17.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Miami LH Mark Buehrle (9-9, ERA 3.31) vs. Atlanta RH Tommy Hanson (11-5, 4.39)

Buehrle lasted just five innings against the Braves in his last start Tuesday, surrendering two runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts. He is 4-1 in his past six starts, striking out seven or more in four of those appearances.

Hanson is 6-1 in his past 10 starts, despite a 4.95 ERA. He beat the Marlins 7-1 on Wednesday, allowing seven stolen bases with seven walks. But Hanson made key pitches when needed, striking out seven and allowing just one run on three hits in five innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Miami OF Justin Ruggiano is hitting .366 (33-for-90) since June 27 with six homers. Ruggiano singled home the winning run in the 10th inning Sunday.

2. Atlanta 2B Dan Uggla, a former Marlin, snapped an 0-for-21 skid with a first-inning RBI double Sunday. Uggla has one hit in his past 24 at-bats, but is 6-for-25 with two homers against Miami this season.

3. Miami SS Jose Reyes went 2-for-5 Sunday, extending his hitting streak to a current major-league best 16 games. Reyes is hitting .338 (21-for-62) during the streak.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
