Pittsburgh @ Houston preview

Minute Maid Park

Last Meeting ( Jul 26, 2012 ) Pittsburgh 5, Houston 3

The Pittsburgh Pirates' hopes of breaking their 20-year postseason drought might depend on their ability to continue dominating the Houston Astros. The Pirates have won seven straight against the Astros, who are in the midst of the worst 25-game stretch in franchise history and trying to avoid matching the longest losing streak in club history with their 12th straight loss. Pittsburgh has nine more meetings with the majors' current worst team.

Pittsburgh, sitting two games behind Cincinnati in the National League Central, has outscored Houston 40-20 in the past seven meetings. The Astros have been outscored 72-30 during their skid. The Pirates hope right-hander Jeff Karstens can continue his success against the Astros - he has won four straight starts against them over the past two seasons, including eight scoreless innings of four-hit ball July 5.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
