Miami @ Chicago preview

Wrigley Field

Last Meeting ( Jul 17, 2012 ) Miami 9, Chi. Cubs 5

Carlos Lee has never been a member of the Chicago Cubs, but he probably wishes he was. Lee and the Miami Marlins will look to make it two straight over the Cubs on Wednesday in the second of a three-game series. Lee has 24 homers and 61 RBIs in 77 games at Wrigley Field, including a grand slam in Tuesday’s 9-5 victory. It was the sixth straight win for the Marlins over the Cubs, and they’ve outscored them 48-19 during that span. Before Miami showed up, Chicago had won 12 of its last 16 games, including the pair of season-high four-game winning streaks it had posted this season.

Miami’s Josh Johnson has only one win in his last five starts, and is coming off a loss in which he matched a career high by allowing 11 hits. He will oppose Chicago’s Jeff Samardzija, who is 1-1 in his last two outings and pitched well in both after winning only once in nine previous starts.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, FS Florida (Miami), WGN (Chicago)

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Marlins RH Josh Johnson (5-6, 4.28 ERA) vs. Cubs RH Jeff Samardzija (6-8, 4.71)

Johnson allowed five runs and struck out six in 5 1/3 innings in Miami’s 5-1 loss to Washington on Friday. He also yielded five runs in his previous start, a no-decision in the Marlins’ 7-6 victory at Milwaukee on July 4. Johnson allowed two runs and seven hits in seven innings, but received a no-decision in Miami’s 5-2 victory over Chicago on April 17. Alfonso Soriano is 2-for-16 against Johnson.

Samardzija allowed three runs and seven hits in seven innings in Chicago’s 3-1 loss at New York on July 7 after yielding one run, four hits and striking out a career-high 11 in seven innings in a 4-1 victory at Atlanta on July 2. He lost at Miami 5-3 on April 19 when he allowed five runs, eight hits and walked five in 3 2/3 innings. The Marlins’ roster is batting .333 against Samardzija, with Lee (4-for-9, homer) and Hanley Ramirez (5-for-9, double) the most successful.

WALK-OFFS

1. Lee is tied with Ted Williams and Jimmie Foxx for seventh on the all-time grand slam list with 17. Lou Gehrig and Alex Rodriguez are first with 23.

2. The Marlins’ Omar Infante went 3-for-5 Tuesday, including a two-run homer, and is 17-for-36 in 12 games at Wrigley Field. ... Miami's Hanley Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a homer Tuesday to extend his hitting streak against Chicago to 11 games. He is 19-for-47 (.404) with five homers and 11 RBIs during that span.

3. Miami skipper Ozzie Guillen, who managed the White Sox for eight seasons prior to 2012, was booed in his return to Chicago, even by his wife. "I asked why and she said she didn't want them to know she was my wife because she'd be killed in the stands," Guillen told the Associated Press. "I respect them. That's fine."

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
