ST. LOUIS -- It was a little bit like a Little League game Thursday at Busch Stadium.

The pitcher was his own best hitter as Adam Wainwright threw and batted the St. Louis Cardinals to a 2-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers for a split of their four-game series.

On the mound, Wainwright (6-3) won his sixth consecutive decision. He fired six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out six in a 101-pitch outing.

Offensively, Wainwright supplied the only runs required. With two outs in the bottom of the second inning and Paul DeJong at second, Brandon McCarthy hung a curve over the plate's heart. Wainwright lashed the meaty gift 410 feet to left-center for his second homer of the year and 10th of his career.

McCarthy (5-2) lasted only four innings and 85 pitches, surrendering both runs on seven hits. He walked one and fanned six.

Los Angeles pushed runners to third base three times against Wainwright, but failed to cash in. It had men at second and third in the fifth for its third-hole hitter, Cody Bellinger, but Wainwright busted a cutter in on his hands that produced an inning-ending popup to shortstop.

In his last four outings, all wins, Wainwright has permitted just one run over 26 1/3 innings.

St. Louis' bullpen saved Wainwright's latest win with three scoreless innings. Matt Bowman and Trevor Rosenthal worked around leadoff walks in the seventh and eighth. Seung Hwan Oh pitched the ninth for his 13th save in 15 opportunities.

The Cardinals improved to 26-25 ahead of a seven-game Central Division road trip to the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati. The Dodgers fell to 33-22 and will head to Milwaukee for a weekend series.

Los Angeles first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and pinch-hitter Yasmani Grandal were both ejected by home plate umpire Marty Foster in the top of the ninth inning after striking out.

NOTES: Los Angeles on Thursday placed LHP Adam Liberatore on the 10-day disabled list with left forearm tightness, retroactive to May 31, and recalled LHP Grant Dayton from Triple-A Oklahoma City. ... St. Louis RF Stephen Piscotty revealed the reason for his recent five-game absence from the team: His mom found out that she was diagnosed with ALS. ... The Cardinals promoted RHP Jack Flaherty, considered one of their top pitching prospects in the farm system, from Double-A Springfield to Triple-A Memphis. Flaherty is 7-2 with a 1.42 ERA in 10 starts.
