The Wolverhampton Wanderers hope to end their terrible start to the 2024-25 Premier League campaign when they play host to Liverpool on Saturday.
Wolves have taken just one point from their opening five outings and have the EPL’s longest run without a league clean sheet at 17 straight matches. Liverpool will look to feast on their defense and stay hot on Manchester City’s tail in the table.

My analysis
It’s been a frustrating season thus far for Wolves, and Saturday won’t see things get much better. They sit bottom of the table with just one point from five matches while knowing they’d be in much better shape if they were simply able to hang onto leads.
They led Aston Villa 1-0 after 70 minutes and lost 3-1 in their last league match. Their last home outing saw them ahead of Newcastle by the same score at the same point before two goals in five minutes doomed them to defeat.
The Wanderers were tied 2-2 with Chelsea at halftime before capitulating after the break in a 6-2 thrashing. That match, along with their performance in a 2-0 loss to Arsenal to open the season, are why I’m backing them to lose to Liverpool by multiple goals.
Wolves have conceded 14 goals already despite an xGA of just 7.1 on the season. Meanwhile, the Reds have allowed only one goal through four matches, as they’re outperforming their xGA so far.
Liverpool cruised to a 5-1 win over West Ham in the Carabao Cup at the midweek. They rested nine of their starters from the match with Bournemouth, a match they won 3-0 behind a Luis Diaz brace. Aside from their shocking 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest after the international break, they’ve been perfect on the campaign.
Arne Slot has them playing in a style that limits opportunities for their opponents and punishes teams at the other end with plenty of interchanging movement. It’s a similar attacking style that Chelsea employed, and they should score another 3+ goals here.
Making matters worse for Wolves, they lost starting center back Yerson Mosquera in the match with Villa, and he will be out the rest of the season. He’s one of six players who are either out or questionable for this team.
That’ll just make it easier for the Reds to roll to a lopsided victory.

Diaz is in stellar form and has multiple goal contributions in three of his last four starts. With Mohamed Salah playing more of a distributor role this season so far, he’ll look to set Diaz up cutting in from the left flank and Diaz will be involved in yet another goal.
The Reds have only been breached once at the back and have conceded just 16 shots on target through five matches. Wolves have put only 18 of their 54 attempts on frame, including just seven in total against Arsenal and Chelsea. It’ll be a similar situation here, and Liverpool will get another clean sheet.
