Liverpool hope to avoid a six-match winless streak in the Premier League when they host Newcastle on Saturday at Anfield.

Arne Slot remains under pressure following a poor run of domestic form, but the matchup is softened by a Newcastle side hampered by key injuries.

See why I’m backing the home side in my Liverpool vs. Newcastle predictions and EPL picks for January 31.

Liverpool head into the final day of January hoping to avoid going winless in the Premier League. Their four draws and a defeat are their worst spell in more than 20 years, but they are hopeful of three points against a Newcastle side that can’t find a win at Anfield.

Florian Wirtz is starting to find his footing for the Reds, while Mohamed Salah has returned from AFCON in solid form. He’s now either scored or assisted in three of his last four for the club.

For Newcastle, spirits were bolstered with a 1-1 draw against PSG in midweek. They shored up their defense by switching to a three-central-defender formation.

Still, they’ve managed just one victory in their last six, and haven’t scored a single goal in their last three matches against British competition. They’ve also managed just 10 goals on the road in league play, having scored in the third-fewest away fixtures of any side in the Premier League.

Liverpool will be bolstered by the return of Ibrahima Konaté in central defense, giving Van Dijk a more reliable partner. For Newcastle, Bruno Guimaraes may miss out, with Eddie Howe stating on Friday that he’s unsure of his star midfielder’s fitness.

Add in the loss of Joelinton to the Newcastle midfield through injury, and this is a spot where the Reds should have a noticeable advantage in the midfield.

Newcastle has the second-highest shot-on-target percentage in the league, which will help a Liverpool side that struggles in that area despite taking the second-most shots.

You also have the fact that Newcastle have already allowed 12 goals in the final quarter of an hour this season — great news for a Liverpool side that have scored the most such goals.

Anfield has been a house of horrors for the Magpies. They’ve gone 29 matches in the league without a win at Liverpool’s grounds, and they’ll lose here for the 13th time in 15 trips.

Both teams to score - Yes

Sandro Tonali to record 1+ shots

Liverpool’s frailties at the back are too prevalent for me to bet on them keeping a clean sheet. While Newcastle hasn’t won at Anfield in forever in the league, they have scored in their last six visits.

And they have the wide players to cause problems on the counterattack and score at some point.

Sandro Tonali has attempted at least one shot in each of his last five matches for Newcastle and has been making runs into the box with more frequency.

With Guimaraes possibly out and Joelinton missing, there will be more opportunities for him to let fly from range.
