can anyone name 1 thing the govt does better than a private enterprise?

no, someone else made a comment about how privatization in general was bad.regarding SS, i think ppl should be allowed the option of planning for their own retirement privately.  the downside to doing it 100% privately is too many ppl are too stupid with their money.

stossel has an outstanding "bounty" for one example.  he made a compelling case about the military.  the main points were there are CBO studies that say private military operations require 33% of the soldiers the govt military requires for the same work.  private militaries can simply get rid of employees while thats not true in the govt military, and there are currently more admirals than ships.

&#xD;&#xA;Goose, I am sure you are a person that has investments and I am also sure you don&#x27;t have all your eggs in one basket.Also if you were contributing to SS, you would have a long time investment plan and over a long period, the market will grow.Sure some of your investment would take a hit, but, it would be dwarfed by the growth the last 10-20-30&#x2B; years

I&#x27;d rather take a slight hit in my Social Security retirement fund via stock market losses than pay into it like I am doing now in my young age knowing that I am going to have zero return on investment, actually, a negative return because I&#x27;m never gonna see a penny of my money back.

Governments are better than the private sector in undertaking projects that are too expensive and unprofitable.  For examples, hydroelectric dams in States.  At the federal level, national defense such as  war against enemy nation.   For municipal government, infrastructure projects such as roads and bridges. For good reasons, these projects are handled by governments in most countries of the world.
