The Hokies need this win for any conceivable shot at making the tournament. Their weak OOC schedule has left them with having to get their marquee wins within conference. The loss to Miami hurt a lot and even though they only have 4 losses, they are far from clinching a spot. The Hokies are very good at home. Delaney shoots the ball better and their physical style is rewarded with more calls in the favor. Their biggest problem all season has been Delaney having to run the point. Green has been taking over more of these responsibilities of late and has allowed Malcolm to play off the ball and frees up Hudson even more to make big plays. UVA on Sunday and the Hokies for the first half of the previous UNC game were attacking the basket against the Heels. Davis and Thompson have the ability to dominate this Hokies team, but will they? That will be the key for the Heels but I think Davis is still hurting more than they are letting on.
The Hokies win games when they create turnovers. They are very good at doing this at home. UNC loves to turn the ball over. I personally consider an ill-advised 3 pt attempt as a turnover as well and it creates a chance for the Hokies to get out in transition. JT Thompson is a beast in transition and a real momentum changer. Terrell Bell and Dorenzo Hudson also thrive in an up tempo game. UNC was able to pull away from the Hokies in Chapel Hill because they shot 65% in the second half. Horrible officiating led to that as always, but they were trailing by 4 at the half. What this comes down to is whether or not UNC can hang on to the ball. If they cant, they will not win this game. They will try to D up Delaney with Ginyard but that will allow a huge mismatch with whoever tries to defend Hudson. Delaney is going to get his regardless. I think UNC's inability to hang on to the ball is the key here.
