The last time NIU lost was October 1, 2011 when they traveled to Central Michigan and fell 48-41. In that game, the NIU defense allowed 5 touchdowns of > 25 yards and collectively they totaled 265 yards on just those 5 TD plays. Since that game, NIU has gone 7-0 and the defense has only allowed 3 TD plays of > 25 yards. Stats will tell you that the NIU defense is not good and that might be true, but they are better than they were earlier and even in the middle of the year. The best player on the field will be behind center for NIU trying to win a MAC Championship in his final season. Since the loss to C. Mich, Harnish has completed 60% of his passes, averaged 208 yards passing per game and 139 rushing yards per game and has combined 17 touchdowns to 1 interception. He has averaged 8.47 yards per carry overt this span. NIU has been rolling along since their last loss, and while I'm not discounting Solich and his Bobcats, I think they run into a buzzsaw tonight and they find an NIU defense that plays better than what they might have expected.
