Mississippi at Wake Forest (-7.5)
Houston Nutt's Debut with Ole Miss was a victorious one. 41-24 over Bowl subdivsion Memphis. Nutt unveiled his new "Wild Rebel" formation which was instrumental in the Ole Miss offensive numbers. Mississippi's Offense wracked up 438 total yards and 5 touchdowns. Jevan Snead was efficient but not sharp hooking up with Shay Hodge for 2 of the 5 TD's
The Ole Miss defense allowed 489 yards to Memphis while picking up 2 interceptions, 0 Sacks. Giving up 265 yards passing and 188 yards rushing.
Wake Forest opened their season with their first win in the state of Texas. Their 41-13 thumping of Baylor was impressive. Wake Forests offense put up 376 total yards of offense and 5 TD's. Riley Skinner passed for 3 of the 5 TD's and put up an impressive 72% completion ratio. With an additional 156 yards on the ground, Wake Forest used a balanced attack and made short work of the Bears. Defensively, the Deacons held Baylor to just 250 total yards. 94 rushing and 156 yards passing. They had 2 sacks and forced 5 turnovers.
Wake Forest hosts Mississippi in an ACC/SEC matchup. Look for Wake Forest to use a balanced attack again as Ole Miss gave up big numbers both rushing and passing. Defensively I look for Wake to keep putting pressure on the QB and force more turnovers. Ole Miss will will keep it close for a while, but I see to much of Riley Skinner and the Wake Defense leading the Deacons to Victory.

South Carolina (-7.5) at Vanderbilt
South Carolina should start QB Chris Smelley under center this coming week at Vanderbilt. Smelly led the Gamecocks to 3 Touchdowns in the 4th quarter and clearly outplayed Junior Tommy Beecher. Beechers 4 Interceptions kept the game close, as SC led only 13-0 when Smelley took over. SC used a balanced offensive attack wracking up 171 yards rushing and 198 yards passing. As impressive as Smelley was at QB the SC defensive was even more so in holding the Wolfpack to 138 total yards and shutting them out. The SC Defense snagged 2 interceptions, 2 fumbles and 2 sacks.
Vanderbilt rolled into Miami of Ohio as a road underdog and came out with an impressive 34-13 victory. The Commodores rolled up 360 total yards of offensi with 269 of them coming on the ground. Chris Nixkson ran for a career high 166 yards as the Commodores starting QB and passed for another 91, and getting 3 of the 4 Commodores TD's.
Defensively the Commodores gave up 340 total yards in a bend but don't break defense that only allowed 13 points from those 340 yards. 3 sacks and 3 interceptions helped keep the score down for the Redhawks.
With the Commodores basically one dimension in their victory I look for South Carolina to use a smothering defense and key on Chris Nickson through out the game. The South Carolina QB controversy will be a good story to watch through out the week. Beecher may get the start but he will be on a short leash if the interceptions start again. Smelley looked as he was the better QB in the opener but all eyes and ears will be open to see who starts. Regardless of who it is look for Carolina to continue to use balance and attack a suspect Vandy defense.
